offered 4 month temp contract extension

Well my 3month back at royal mail warranted a 4 month extension til end of feb. However letter states thats when my employment is likely to end and i wont be required bythe business bythen. Didnt realise how much s**t company was in to have to hire folk for small periods of time to get back on there feet and cast us off.

Also royal mail should do away with seniority as u have knackers of 30 years getting preference for jobs although alot of them are useless and dont do anything for the company.

The whole set up of this company is poor. Ive seen alot of changes since i have come back

Well you were a postman for 4 years on a 33 hour contract before you came back on lower hours so you should know what this company is like, Oh and i'm one of the "knackers" you speak of, 25 years in and not useless thankyou very much

Probably because there aren't many other jobs out there. Also, the debate about seniority, is a long running one, not something that tylerandmeggie has started.

Although I understand tylerandmeggie's frustration, it's wrong to blame it on people with seniority. The whole point in RM using these short term contracts, is to create a "disposable", part time workforce. So actually, the number of permanment full time Posties (usually the ones with the most seniority), has been declining for quite some time.

It just routine tactics, once you are there for 12 months you are in. They want to give you short term contract to save money on permanent pay and ability to get rid of you easily if you are not good enough. They need staff to deliver the post, so don't worry too much about it unless you are really bad.

they can be threatened with the sack and know that there is nothing they can do about it. they will work overtime and not expect to be paid for it. They wont take sick leave, because they must try and be better then everyone else. They wont make mistakes because they will lose their jobs in an instant... royal mail is on to a winner here...
