Sat Nav on PDA...

hi all. got a quick question. gonna be doin a collection tomorrow on a route i dont know. i've heard that the PDA's have sat navs built in for the collection routes though Im not sure how to get the sat nav up...i know u scan the route barcode in as from there i dunno...i would ask tomorrow but by time im in in the afternoon everyone will be gone home (typically). any help would be great.

Press options, press navigate to pc, enter the postcode for where you want to go and wait. dont expect too much from it cos its s**t just like the pda's ;-}

Yes, the sat nav isn't great... it'll take the you most direct route, not the fastest, and half the time doesn't direct you properly to where you need to go. I used one to take me to another D.O. once... it took the most direct route instead of the quickest, then all around the houses (literally) and then took me to "near" the postcode

If it's anything like our office PDAs it will run out of power before you get half way there and just beep at you constantly!

Should you not be taught the route first before you go it alone?

Obviously you have not had the correct aprox 1hr training..... I was trained the customary 10 mins @ our office, something went wrong, I was conduct coded and told by DOM (who is responsible for training) I should not have used the PDA as I had not been trained and gave me my sentence .....
Moral of the story if you are not trained correctly in line with procedure...... Don't use the apparatus as things do go wrong !!!!!!

should be trained on it first, would be good if the PDA could track a route and then you could put all the boxes on as points, then you can give it to anyone and all they would have to do would be to follow the track, them boxes are hidden sometimes!

you just scan the route, a list of the boxes and offices will come up, scan them as you go and they will disappear from your pda as you zap them, any left at the end and either you haven't zapped them all or you missed some! it's up to you, either man up and put reason for failure missed and await the inevitable bollocking and letter or put something more creative

one thing getting put out on a duty you don't know, i don't fancy getting put out on collection never been shown. you could have hell of a time.

You should have had training on the collection first. Or if you signed up for it as overtime knowing that you didn't know it, you should've made sure that you knew where all the boxes were either by accompanying someone else on another night or asking someone to talk you through it.

I thought that royal mail and the cwu had agreed that the sat nav on pda's should no longer be used as they're considered a danger because of poor audio.
