accident

Does anyone else think this odd or somewhat dodgy ?

A chap had an accident when using Mechanical Handling Equipment (a forklift), causing damage to a lorry. An investigation was carried out by the H&S Rep, who concluded that no blame could be assigned to the operator of the forklift.

The person doing the investigation was the same person who was driving the forklift at the time of said accident ! :hmmmm

If true it stinks - no decent H&S Rep should investigate their own accident. Hopefully its just the rumour mill going in to overdrive

Unfortunately, this actually happened.

One of the people that witnessed the accident is too scared to complain to people higher up in the CWU because the local rep is coffee-drinking buddies with the H&S Rep and with the manager. Another witness has a poor sick record and said to the first witness "Imagine facing a Stage 3 after you've dropped all three of them in the brown stuff. Do you really reckon a person in that scenario would get the proper representation they should ? Get real!"

For similar reasons, nobody else is flagging up the issue with CWU HQ, but it still stinks that a rep investigated his own accident. He now drives a forklift on overtime, having found himself 'not guilty' :evil/mad

If there's been an accident and investigation there has to be a paper trail.
Who's name is on the paper work?
It can't,for obvious reasons be the same person...unless they are very stupid.
