Hi all. could someone tell me weather i am entitled to special leave with pay when my brother passes away asked my manager but he said i have to take it as annual leave or take the time off then pay back the time with my wallington weeks. is this right, i thought you got 5 days with pay is this true

Special Leave is at the discretion of management but the guidance they should follow in this case is...

Speak to your rep and get him/her to sort it out for you.For the death of next of kin and blood relative, (spouse, civil partner, long standing unmarried relationship, child, parent, sibling) up to one week with pay (No additional week is allowed if the person is arranging the funeral).

Yes you should get the 5 days off with full pay being that it is a blood relative my mum passed away in 2010 and that what I was told and got. Sounds like a tpyical manager no sensativity even worse in your case telling you lies. Sorry to hear about your lose
