I'm getting a bit pissed off with this dispute, and probably a lot of Postmen are. That does not mean that i will turn into a s--b. I will always go with the majority vote and strike, if and when necessary.Always have done and always will. The worst that could happen to me is that i will end up on the dole, and the way our job is now, that is an increasingly attractive option.While i was doing my walk today a light bulb went off on the control panel. I thought! Why are these negotiations held behind closed doors?Why is there no transparency? I understand basically what this dispute is about and what RM plans are, but i would like more details.I'm sure a lot of people would! There must be some Postmen out there that are voting in a ballot, and they don't even know what they are voting for. Then i thought, why can't RM send every Postman a detailed statement of their business plan.(in an easy to understand format) ALSO, why can't the CWU send every Postman a detailed statement of ' their' business plan.At the bottom of each plan will be a critical report of the other one.In other words, at the bottom of the RM plan, there will be a critical report of the union plan, and vice versa.--After these business plan statements are sent out to every Postperson, and they have had time to read them, then we have another ballot, for or against strike action! A vote for a continuation of strike action would mean we are against RM business plan and that we are in favour of CWU's plan. You might be thinking what is the point of all that. It's just a waste of time! BUT-- I think it would be a good idea because----

(1) RM would be forced to make their plan as attractive as possible, to win as much support as they can.
(2) It would encourage CWU to show that they have a viable alternative plan.Rather than just rejecting most of Royal Mails proposals.
(3) If most people voted to go back on strike it would make RM business plan look even more unsavory than it is now, and RM management would look increasingly isolated.
(4) The unions business plan would restrain them from trying to achieve an unobtainable deal, and everybody would be able to see what they are hoping to achieve.

( Any deal done or plan accepted would be legaly inalterable for a set period of years! )

I wouldn't trust anything RM told me (if they told me water was wet I'd have to put my hand in to to check) we need to continue the strikes until we get an agreement

The flaw in your suggestion with these alternative business plans is that one of them would contain stupid proposals that would alienate the public, drive customers away, lower the morale of the entire workforce and ultimately end in the business ceasing to exist.
And the other plan would be the one put forward by the union

one would be for a public service with benefits for all and with profit as a secondary consideration.

The other would be designed to break up the business, and asset strip it for the benefit of a few.

-Got it in one-RM can't do anything transparent ,early 90's spivs and brylcreemed gangsters , sell thier a**** in Woolworth's shop window for Â£10 , shop thier mates for the price of a pint , sell thier own mothers to save thier skin. It was quite deliberate that pull the plug and attempt to impose , as usual one idea with "negiotiations". From my experience with a privatised industry and another big union , you DON'T get this "brave new world" or "corporate utopia" you simply get the WORST of both old school RM and the corporate b******t , same old managers who couldn't run a whelk stall , same old useless shifty slimey "protected" people whoose faces somehow fit .Teamworking which RM are pushing through by stealth with this one -sided flexibility is just sugar to swallow S***
