I need a week off in the near future but i am unable to get anyone to swap ,what are my alternatives ,can i take unpaid leave ?

Depending on what it is for you can ask for special leave , this can be paid or unpaid and is dependant on your DOM and the units operational needs

A friend of mine is going to live in Australia and I've been offered accomodation for a hol either next year or the next how much holiday time could I get as a block can I add on unpaid leave to this to make it i.e a month or would it be easier to take unpaid leave and keep my hols?
