money taken from wages

Am i right in thinking that it is illegal to take money out of your wages without your consent, and if so, how come the cwu can raise prices then take it out of our wages without a word of notification,im surprised more peaple are not up in arms about the total lack of respect shown to the members.

A LTB is a Letter To Branch, something that is sent out by HQ and should be distributed to all reps for distribution to members.

For all my information I come on here, best way to communicate which is ironic because both the CWU HQ and RM HQ don't really like us

LTB = Letter to Branches.
Your rep gets them from the Branch. They should be displayed on the union noticeboard.

But this current leadership seems to have forgotten all about what they're supposed to be about, that's the reason for the discontent........you're only as good as your latest victory and the CWU doesn't seem to have had any recently.

fair comment, but its down to the membership to change the people at the top when they fail to produce. i think comments from union headquarters regarding imminant revisions ect, the powers that be realise the troops are revolting and its time to change tack a bit.

Last year the rise was 3%...this year it's 4%.
The members have had 3.4% total since 2007/8....notwithstanding inflation running at around 5%.
The union structure is massively bloated for the membership numbers we have and money is wasted on a grand scale.
The wages bill alone is around £8million or roughly a third of income.
To expect members to keep upping their contributions to offset a loss in revenue due to falling membership and a culture of spending beyond their means is foolish and short-sighted.

Billy Hayes went to the UNI Post and Logistics Global Union Conference in Washington DC...an expensive trip but you could almost justify it...he is GS after all however he was joined by president Jane Loftus; head of international affairs, John Baldwin; national executive council member Lesley McLean midlands regional secretary Lee Barron and women's advisory committee member Vera Kelsey.
Of course they will all be able to justify their presence but really?....6 of them?

again fair comment, i don't agree with full time release for area and div reps, headquarters seems like a generals chateau miles behind the lines in ww1, but its up to us to try and change it.

Indeed, but it requires someone or a group of people to make a stand and promise real change at all levels within the union - I can only imagine what the union top brass would do to people like this (try and shove them out or dig dirt so they continue to enjoy their champagne lifestyle etc)

If the likes of Hayes really gave a s**t about the workforce they'd of made significant changes years ago, but they havn't because they know only too well they're on to a good thing getting a decent wage and paid-for-jollies all over the place, meanwhile back in the real world I've had no flimsy-share money, no reason to believe I'll get the % pay increase RM suggested we would get this year, no real input from the union on revisions and workload and so I could go on..

It's a times like this I feel like withdrawing support from the dinosaur of a union, I don't see any future considering they f****d us over and insist on wasting my money to pay for the priviledged few to enjoy themselves. If I had the time or energy I'd start a campaign to rid this union of over-paid spongers, but I don't so I won't, so maybe I'll just f**k off instead and stop them getting my hard earned pennies.
