I guess you all know the problem. Letter shifts in envelope and cannot be read.

Is it legal to take them out on delivery, not be able to read them, bring them back and condemn?

I've had my fill of tearing/scratching my way into them to reveal a house number. Got over 400 today. But every day for the past 6 months I'm delivering virgin shite. Other companies do suffer from the same issue but virgin is the worst as every single address cannot be seen once bundled. Fine to put up in frame as easy to shake into place.

So can I condemn them?

It really is infuriating. Problems like this happen over and over again, and management never do anything about it.

If you can't read the address, you can't deliver it, so stick a kill off sticker on!

and they also keep making up address to hope there is a missing house to be found. ie if Smith Road go from 2-56 and there always mail for 58, 60 despite there is no house for this.

I give them a shake and if the address doesn't appear I put a question mark on the window and kill them off - Incomplete Address.Can't be arsed tearing the windows open.

They're not the only ones guilty of that. I used to deliver to a lane where the even numbers started at 10 and the odd side went 1 - 23 then there was a gap and new builds went up but started at 45 - lo and behold the council would insist on sending letters to "The Occupier" at all the missing numbers. I must have signed off dozens and dozens over the years but nobody seemed to take a blind bit of notice - you'd have thought that if no one was paying council tax at those addresses there was something wrong.

it's pain to do it but I write the number on it before throwing it in the frame so I know what number it is if it becomes unreadable out on delivery.

Afraid that I do this too, unless there is no address at all I would be wary about endorsing them.

my biggest gripe with them is - the data base they are using must be years out of date - still get shed loads of mail for estates that were demolished years ago!

That's because it costs more to update the database than it does to deal with the returns

Surely a PAF subscription cant cost a much as the wasted postage.

Surely logic dictates that the principles of WCM and the pursuit of BSI 100 would require delivery offices to reject all mail presented in an unreadable state, be it back to front upside down ,slipped windows ,smeared print ,over stickered ,or too small font ,or indistinct font. All impact on efficiency , perhaps they should just be bagged up without wasting precious time on endorsement and returned to the guilty MC along with an invoice for processing ,say £1 per item

That's what I do. Cannot be arsed anymore to correct the mistakes made by Virmin, if I cannot read the address for whatever reason, it gets killed off.
