Your health is more important than a few difficulties with child care arrangements therefore the priority is the delivery method change.

Produce a letter stating the reasons why you cannot use that particular delivery method. Hand it in to the DOM and ensure that there are copies for the local and branch IR/H&S Reps and the DSM.

It would then be prudent for them to either provide you with an alternative delivery method, (likely an electric HCT at huge cost), or switch your duties.

I would find it very difficult to make a case for you to have guaranteed hours to suit your needs over the few weeks before your new duty begins. Your Rep should however do their best in the weekly resource meetings to find a suitable plan for your circumstances.

When I said hours, I was generalising, what I was getting at was that I would not be able to guarantee you could perform your duties only within the times/days you wanted.

What is more important to you, having a little trouble sorting out childcare over a couple of weeks or spending the rest of your life in a wheelchair and missing out on many of those 'moments' with your children as a result.

Your priority should be your health; and since you have ignored that you either don't have a health problem, have exaggerated it, are being deliberately awkward or have difficulty in making sound judgements.

If I was your DOM, Line Manager, IR Rep or H&S Rep and you decided to back track like this, not knowing what discussions had been ongoing regarding your issues, then I'd certainly be noting that you are not helping matters. I would also note that it was your own decision to use a piece of equipment which you knew was a threat to your health notify you that you were doing so against my advice and probably ask you to sign something stating that you were ignoring that advice.

Don't wait until Monday, it will be treated as if you were deliberately being awkward!

Let them know tomorrow, in writing as previously mentioned, that you are unable to use a HCT due to your health and ask for advice on what alternatives are open to you.

They may be able to arrange the duty, at short notice, in such a way that you take out a non-full HCT and replenish it during the duty either from pouch boxes or van drop off's.

If you don't ask properly, fail to suggest alternatives and give insufficient notice then you've even less chance of getting the support you need.
