If you deliver a thousand letters each day, a 6% drop in traffic would mean delivering 60 letters less each day. Approx 3 minutes less prep time needed each day.
Would needing 3 minutes less prep time even register?
If you had 8 bags each day that would mean 8 letters less in each bag (approx)
4 bundles in each bag means 2 letters less per bundle.
You wouldn't really notice it would you?

Not really but then we didn't get any reductions when the mail was going up and as you said, call rate is not going down........and neither are the packets (which require longer time).

DGP1 is right its the call rate that has increased along with packets more than letters.

Also if you have had any kind of a revision then your delivery is so much longer its hard to judge what we were taking out a few years ago.

The call rate is about the same, but instead of three or four letters a call it's one or two letters a call. Plus the increase in packets which take longer.

Letters maybe down but that don't make my job any easier.

While I don't dispute that letter volumes have decreased and packets have gone up it is such a joke how RM present their numbers as if they are gospel like they have individually counted every single item which goes through the network without a single error. They can't possible know that the number of letters is exactly 6% down on last year (or whatever number) at best they could maybe say they are somewhere between 5-7% down. The same goes for DO traffic figures: today we have 50k which is 5% down so we can lapse another walk, wtf they can't possibly get traffic figures that accurate, probably to within 10% margin of error at best.

No, not fishing, more thinking out loud.

A 3 minute decrease in prep time across an office with 70 walks would mean a 210 minute capacity gap - and another duty to lapse.
It just explains the enormous gap between them and us.

Their "figures" would show another duty could be lapsed because you need 3 minutes less prep time.
But how can I absorb more because I've got 2 letters less/bundle.
It doesn't make sense off paper.

And as pointed out, an increase in traffic packet does lead to an increased attendance rate.
And an extra packet in each bag is a lot more noticeable than 2 fewer letters/bundle.

i hear that loud and clear, struggled alot summer last year to absorb ontop of duties after revision, other than the general 2 light days u just simply don't notice a difference, they also did everything in there power to take the absorption first before your full duty.

When daily they shout the mail is down. That is just an average of the office yeah? There are duties which are lighter,we feel we are being s,,t on as we have heavier duties. If its an average wtf has that got to do with individual duties.? There are guys out the door n hour or so before us due to there duties being a lot lighter daily .when were out late its a performance issue,,,the new magic words.! The whole place is a corrupt mess ,bullying and favouritsm is rife , weve lost 12guys in the last few weeks ,some of those are long serving guy s who've just had enough.The lack of man management and people skills from line managers is shocking,,,,,

If mail was down 10% from last year it wouldn't matter one jot, it's January and i'm still getting 2 packet bags a day. I can't ever remember even getting a full packet bag this time of year never mind two.

We also start later, which means we have to breakaway from delivery to deliver registers more often .They say the mail is down ,but really its the revenue is down .We lose the contracts but still have to deliver the final mile ,never believe what you are TOLD !!
