No not that sort of nicking....
I had a special Delivery the other day which was quite large but the item inside was only a smallish box. The packet though was inflated with a lot of air. Is it acceptable to nick the silver packet to let the air out making it easier to get into your pouch?

I often do "nicking" . Whos to say where a tiny hole came from in the packing/posting process ?
If it makes the difference between be having to carry a packet around and the customer having to go into town to collect it from the office. . . . . everyones a winner

There are several postmen in my office who stab the parcel several times with their pen and sit on the parcel to squeeze all the air out. My advice would be to get the heaviest guy in the office to do the sitting bit.

Its ok to 'nick' the item as long as you are sure it does'nt contain insects

When we still had packet deliveries I was shown a trick by another postie...
Nick the corner of a plastic bag packet, and INFLATE it as big as it will go in order to throw it out for the packet driver.
Obviously I never did this, but it was very very funny
, still makes me laugh now, remmebering his little fat red face huffing andf puffing trying to inflate these packets as big as they'd go without bursting.

either a red rubber band, or a ballooon type knot.
a small amount of deflation wasn't always too serious, as long as the packet looked big enough to throw out in the first place. Then it didn't matter if it deflated slowly in the packet van.
