Anyone else in a similar Position?

I'm a part timer 30 hour , i have a second job which i start aprox hour or so after my finish time with RM.
We've now had some kind of revision within the DO to change our start times.Now this affects everyone full and part time,but theres only 15mins difference to full time start times and theres 1 hour to part time,so obviously the old part time/full time row has flared up and us part timers are in disagreement with it.

Its gone to a ballott anyway and theres a rumour its in favour of change as theres more full timers in office and to me this is an unfair advantage anyway.

My question here is though "Where do i stand?" as ive got other commitments and to change my hours isa no-no and they cant be enforced can they surely??

If the office agrees the revision they won't be enforcing it they will be implementing an agreed change.

But they cant just alter my finishing time when it will conflict with my start times of my other job surely?

And in any case they only have to give you 28 days notice to change your start times :(

All you can do is plead your case to your DOM, with your Rep and see where it gets you......good luck.

No offence but what makes you think that Royal Mail should make allowances for another job you do with another employer?

Easy...Because i took this job on knowing what times i start and finish with Royal Mail.So are you saying i shouldnt look for other work incase Royal Mail want to change my finishing times one day?

And how about allowances for people with kids at school etc? Should they keep them off school when Royal Mail decides to change their finishing times which allows them to be unable to pick them up from school?

I'm saying that Royal Mail don't have to make any allowances for other jobs.
What you have now is what most of us would call...a grown up decision to make...can you continue with both jobs?

And how about allowances for people with kids at school etc? Should they keep them off school when Royal Mail decides to change their finishing times which allows them to be unable to pick them up from school?

That's entirely different..is covered by Family Friendly guidance and if you want some advice on that i can help no problem.

Well how about your other employer make your start time an hour later? Would that not solve your problem? Kids from school? I worked 10 miles away from where my kids went to school and finished an hour later and had to catch a train ...............

There is a clause in your contract, at least in mine there is, which I can't remember word for word, but in essence it says that any other job outside of Royal Mail should not adversly affect your employment with RM.

Thats their get out clause.

Morally what they are doing is not palatable..... However they are 100% in their rights, did it in our office and lost around 6 damn good P/T posties .....
I do sympathise with you, no opportunity for a F/T job, try to make your wages up to an acceptable rate then scuppered by RM
