Project 'Bullshit'

Post by MinisterofCucumber »

Despite what Hooper thinks, RMG managers generally do not have the capabilities to manage.

RMG could thrive as a public service and provide fulfilling careers for talented people from all walks of life if almost all of the current managers were removed. Most RMG managers

are proudly uneducated,

are afraid of some of their staff and appease them with favours

and bully the staff they are not afraid of.

In short, RMG management are not in control and are unable to run their units so that staff do their fair share of work and get their fair share of benefits.

The problem is how can this management be replaced?

I propose a 'carrot' solution.

Firstly set up an objective selection process for promotion that current managers get no say in. Identify talent and train it in model units. Promote existing managers to a special project, Project 'Bullshit'.

Project 'Bullshit' will take place in dedicated secure units so the managers that are destroying RMG are kept away from staff and public. They will only manage each other and their work will only impact on their fellow 'Bullshit' managers. They will be told that Project 'Bullshit' is top secret and of vital national importance.

We have to be realistic. These managers are a danger to the service, the staff and the public. Redundancies and conduct code will not get rid of them and will cost more in the long run. The Government should apply to the EU for permission to grant State Aid to Royal Mail Group in the form of funding to promote the vast majority of existing managers to Project 'Bullshit'.

Happy New Year. :funneh

Royal Mail management does need a damn good clearout, from the top, to the bottom.
Delivery Office Managers at this moment in time, have to be the poorest I've come across so far in two decades.
Our berk can barely speak the Queen's English, his supposed Mother tongue. He swans about the office doing the next best thing to jackshite, and proceeds to tell hard-working posties they aren't working fast enough, hard enough.
To say that I wish him the very worst for 2012, and am far from being the only one in my office, would be the first big understatement of 2012.

The way Royal Mail Management supposedly manage, will always be more counter-productive than otherwise would be the case.

He is hardly likely to be able to understand written English either. How can managers like this have a hope of following RMG policies and agreements let alone communicate with their staff?

How did all these incapables become managers?

Instead of using objective criteria like measurement of comprehension and communication skills, it seems that existing managers promoted family and friends according to the length of their tongues. They certainly haven't been selected for their bravery. None of the managers in my unit can stand up to the bullies.

I ve had good managers and bad ones but the best of the bunch (not many) have been fair across the board and they have earned my respect. My dom at the moment does not seem to grasp the balance of workload theory.

For example this sat we got clobbered with DSA letters on the walks. I came in to 4 perstops full, BT and the like.
Waiting to be sorted where stacks of gardening mags and holiday cottage brochures (all going to the walker duties).

Now we get 15 mins to prep our walks before getting called on to the IPS. My dom was screaming her head off bang on 6.15 threatening conduct to a few late people to get on the sorting. The firms however are still realised from IPS despite the fact that they have a lighter workload this time of year with firms being closed and sat retentions.

Now logic would tell you to manage the staff and get everyone up and clear the mail asap as some will be going home at 10am and others working well over their time, that would be a fair manager. :hmmmm

In reality we all slog on the sorting for over an hour and a few of us with the longer rounds end up going over working up to 2.5 hours longer than others. :so there
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

Can't argue with any of that, mate.
A malaise of our times, I'm afraid. Having to be bossed about by ignoramuses.
Unfortunately, I don't think this malaise is to be found solely at Royal Mail, most British companies seem to promote people with absolutely no people skills at all, and who appear to be able to barely read and write, or communicate properly and coherently, and possess a lazy streak as wide as the M6.
Why should this be? I only wish I knew.

Posters who have recent experience working for other firms say RMG is different.

When systems have been running for a long time, they become corrupt. For example, look at the Welsh Labour Party. Labour have been in power in Wales for about 100 years. The traditionally powerful families in Wales, who would be Shire Tories in England, have all joined the Labour Party and a lot of them are London Ponserati. Real Welsh workers don't get a look in.

Cliques have taken over the management positions in RMG. The colonial and prison-style 'Daddy' system of management has prevailed. Managers let the bullies run the shop floor in exchange for favours such as getting more than their fair share of overtime, getting more than their fair share of prime annual leave weeks and being allowed to choose what tasks they do.

The Welsh bit is just an opinion and I have mentioned it as a dig at a NEC member who visited my Unit and accused me of making racist assertions in emails that he could not even quote, let alone produce. I would love to know whether any real Welsh workers agree with me. You must be sick of these ciabbata eating ponces who have been drinking Thames water for the last 20 years but claim to have Wales in their hearts.

The bullies bit I can back up with evidence from my own Unit.
