We’re launching a new apprenticeship scheme in time for the new year, for caller’s offices, which was first trialled at Hemel Hempstead mail centre in 2007.

Head of customer experience Natalie Thomas says: ‘It provides the staff with better tools for the job and helps them deal with customers, as well as creating an organised environment to minimise queues.

‘After its success, we are looking for regions to register their interest for the next roll-out stage planned for March 2012.’

Do they get the NVQ thingy as well?

Putting an apprentice in the callers office is like putting a baby in the lion enclosure because we all know that RM will use it a cheap labour.

its funny how many think its a breeze
then get stuck in there when on light duties
it seems to be a miracle cure for some ailments ;)

An apprenticeship to work in the caller's office? Who's fooling who?
Some young kid on a two week two-bob training course to hand out parcels to the public, and that's now classed as an "apprenticeship", is it?

I suppose they'll be classed and paid at the old Trainee Technician Apprentice (TTA grade) rates too....

I sometimes feel myself well up, when I realise what a pathetic people the British have become. Pathetically reliant on a ruling class that never ceases to pass up an opportunity to crap all over them, the British are a perfect doormat for a ruling class ruthlessly efficient in making the world for working class people a colder, harsher, place to seek to exist in.

I've been put down to work in the callers office all day Tuesday, having only an hours experience in there before. Am I entitled to any further training and a higher rate of pay seeing as I'm only an opg...!?

Ive never come out of work so stressed than after a bad day in the room of doom with "WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU CANNOT LOCATE MY PARCEL" ringing in my ears.

I'm sure the bloke that normally does the callers office and the guys in the locker (PHG's) have a higher rate of pay

ex PHG's have a higher rate, you are an OPG so not entitled to any extra. Stay out of the Room of Doom, it made me suicidal after spending over 3 years in there. The only good thing that came out of it was that I'm not allowed to work in there again

Apprenticeships are something I have quite a bit of knowledge of.90% of Companies use these kids as cheap labour ,wether it Apprenticeship as cleaners ,Petrol station cahiers or what ever,they are all doing jobs that to many with expirence the idea of a Apprenticeship is laughable .

In the callers ,where you are dealing with the Public you need someone older than a poor kidd straight out of school.
Who would let a child of theirs on here to go and work in the callers,mind you it could be better than a cleaner or Petrol Station Cashier.
Hope the CWU get involved and protect the youngsters.
The next thing Romec will have Apprenticeship cleaners ,I KID YOU NOT!

That was years ago but I still flinch on my frame when i hear the callers bell go

there is no higher rate of pay for callers office
