Query About Going Off Sick

I was given my 2nd stage warning last February. Where would I stand if I went sick tomorrow and Sat? 3rd stage?

Stage 2: 2 absences or 10 days in any 6 month period in the next 12 months.
Stage 3: same.

This depends on how the day off with your dad was recorded, if it was recorded as sick AND was in the last 6 months, this could trigger a 3, be careful.

RM's system is a joke, I've had two stage 3's in as many months due to back problems, now I'm suffering from a heavy bout of flu, so I'm going into work, spreading all my germs around for fear of yet another stage 3, so I say Sod em, go to work, spread the germs, and hope in a weeks time the whole office is office is off with it.

I appreciate that Rm have to stop the malingerers, but if you are genuinely ill, then you shouldn't go to work, the Union should look at this and get it changed.

Draft Joint Comms for Attendance Procedure
6 December 2010

A key objective of the Business Transformation Agreement is to improve employee relations. Royal Mail and CWU are working together to review HR procedures, starting with the Attendance Procedure.

Discussions have been positive and constructive, detailed work is now commencing to produce an agreement which:

• Treats all employees with dignity and respect
• Moves away from an approach seen as adversarial with an emphasis on warnings to one which is intended to be genuinely supportive
• Emphasises early supportive action to help avoid absence becoming long term

Royal Mail and CWU believe that establishing a sensible and people focused approach to sick absence is a key part of improving working relations and we are all determined to bring discussions to a conclusion as quickly as possible.
Meetings will be taking place over the coming weeks to achieve this. We will communicate progress at the appropriate time as discussions progress
