IHR Meeting with ATOS

Hi, after a call from the ATOS docs today, he has recommended me to go to a IHR meeting with a local doc/nurse. I have had previous surgery and and now on my 4th absence with same condition. It normally lays me up for up to 3 months. (all testicular related so delicate subject). He asked to write to my GP to which I told him that there was information relating to me and my family and that I did not give him permission to do this. so my question is, what can I expect when I have my meeting and does he have to get in touch with my GP?, I don't want to go an see a complete unknown random doctor, get all my bits out for him to, umm and ahh and say I can do this and that, i don't want to be examined by them or anyone to do with royal mail at all, due to recent trust issues over a stage 3 grievance against my manager which i won,or will it just be a chat?. The only people i want examining me is my own GP and specialist at the hospital.

sorry for slight vagueness but never been on this scale before, the doc said on the phone he could do it there and then and put the recommendation in, so if he could do that based on what he had why ask extra info?, has anyone else had similar dealings.

They will probably just have a chat to you,can't see you having to get your bits out but you never know with these goons,just don't look in their eyes if they ask you to!

my DOM did threaten to write to my GP but nothing ever came of it.
i doubt they are allowed to share your personal info with anybody else.
an ATOS nurse will see you but its more about altering your mind set and getting you back into the work place asap.
all the best with it and stick with your GPs decision.

atos will give a chat they dont examine, they will take into account what the dr says.
you should get a lump sum or you may get pension which seems will happen in this case.
the manager will tell you what has been decided.

I've never known the ATOS people do an examination...

Im afraid the RM will take the ' word' of their Doctor rather than your Doctor. As it appears the RM is sending you down the IHR route , the examination is likely- however insist that is with a Male Doctor if it puts your mind at rest.

If your absences has been caused by your one condition and it is likely to last a year or more, you should get yourself covered by the old DDA Act now the Equality Act. RM will no longer in most cases be able to issue stages if you go sick with the covered condition.

All the ATOS Drs I saw read the letters from my GP and my consultant and made their decisions based on that information. Then again, what I've got wrong with me isn't really something examinable (or diagnosable it seems!), so there wasn't much else they could do.

Anyway, I found the ATOS Drs to be very understanding, helpful, reasonable and not especially concerned with what RM wanted. When it came to IHR, they asked if it was what I wanted given my age and I said yes.

I wouldn't worry too much about it to be honest. It's likely they won't examine you and even if they do, they're fully trained doctors (all the ones I saw were consultants) and they're still bound by the confidentiality clause etc. All you have to say is that you're not really comfortable with it and that here's a report from your GP. I'm sure they'd rather read a report than fondle your gingangoolies to be honest Best wishes xx

i agree with the above i was under atos and i found them really understanding and helpful and they worked with( what was best for me ) and they never rushed me back to work.... and when i did go back they put me on modified hours for a couple of mths until i felt i was able to cope with the 8 hours as for your medical records only atos deals with them and then refers what they feel the manager who is dealing with your case needs to no but they discuss it first with u .
( dda )if your condition is a recurring condition which is out of your hands : example heart diabetes depressions ect then u r covered under the dda but your union rep should be explaining all this to u good luck anyway :) and u should be keeping in touch with a union rep while your off so he can advise and point u in the right direction.......

They only have a chat to you they were realy good to me they cannot cannot do out else to you with out your say so only your doc can

I have 7 years service and I am full time.

That is IHR with Lump Sum. It is non taxable and No NI is due. You will also get outstanding leave, however Tax/NI is payable.
There is an appeals process available if you dont feel that IHR is premature .

Ill health retirement is a nasty way to loose your job, its a dirty trick. If you ever fall out with the company in a bad way like i did, its posible you may get to see a reptilian, I know I did. After that your in a world of s**t, gastapo has nothing on these guys they are ruthless "employee health service advice should be given and taken into account to further detriment the indeviduals health" ... "it is recomended employees leave the business for health reasons in respect of medical retirement" CMA
