Overrunning delivery

Post by The hollow man »

Due to tax credits etc i haven't the desire to do any excessive overtime although being the foolish person i am i do sometimes go over by the odd 10 minutes and help the buisness out.

On an average day the duty i am on will take up to 4 hrs (pre revision on a bike) xmas pressure 4.5 hrs. The problem is the management are aware of this daily issue but continue to harrass and try to use and abuse me to complete a duty which cannot be done within my contracted hours.

I am getting sick and tired of being dragged into the office and basically told my work performance is not up to scratch because other people can do it ;liar ;liar , my union rep seems to think the management are within their rights to challenge me over this matter  . Here's me thinking union reps where here to defend you :hmmmm .I feel im being mugged off paying union subs if i'm getting no support off the rep.

So, is there any union people who can advise me on this situation :pray :pray

You've just saved me typing all that out, mate. Well most of it anyway. The only advice you'll get is - Stick to your guns. If you're doing the job properly, and your work rate's ok, then there's nothing they can do. Unfortunately, it won't stop em trying to wear you down.

Management should be following correct procedures as to why you're not completing
within your time instead of making accusations on your performance.
I was in similar position and ended by putting grievance in against my line manager.
They decided to test my walk (P+L) which went over by 1hr 20min.

And get a new rep.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Thanks for your advice guys, i have requested the walk to be tested but it falls on deaf ears. Ive got to admit it is pissin me off. Before i joined royal mail i did 10 years down the pit and the union (NUM) was always there for support if you needed them so i didn't mind paying my subs back then, but just recently with royal mail i think its a waste of money especially when the union seem to walk hand in hand with the management :no no

Too right they should, but they won't.
In the end, they'll do what they can to avoid testing the walks. God forbid you're correct in what your saying and know what you're talking
about, it means they have to accept it, and their arguments are lost.
We all know they have their own classroom time; and they're told not to let up, at any cost.

Square peg, round hole. With the tactics they use, they'll make it work.
You can count the people that work properly in our office on one hand. Compared to some offices, thats a lot. But while ever the rest choose to mutter
under their breaths at how tits up it is, while not standing up, then you've got a near impossible fight on your hands.

I would chance the B and H procedure. i say this because given what you have said they are not making any attempt to justify their position and are refusing to test which would either support you or them, for fear of supporting you. Their action i feel are nothing short of bullying.
Confused... You won't be, after the next episode of. SOAP

I have been honest with them, no way am i trying to pull the wool over their eyes. They must have a rough idea what the walk's like as they often deliver what i leave in.

It shouldn't have to come to going down the B&H road they should act on what they have been told, but it seems i won't have any option soon.

Sorry to hear you don't feel represented. Unfortunately, some Reps find it hard to keep up to the job and its demands when faced with Royal Mail as they are today. Some Branches are as a whole behind the times and need to catch up. What we need more and more is people who will not only stand up for themselves, but are strong enough to stand up for others as well.

Were you ever a rep in the NUM? Maybe you could be a rep in the CWU?

Anyway, some stuff you might find useful:

When it comes down to it, full-time release reps like me don't have to do the job, the ordinary rank and file do.
Full-time reps sometimes need reminding who they represent. There's no time like the present...

And as far as being dragged into the office about your performance is concerned, this might help you and your rep:
CWUMembersBulletin_IPStandards_2011-12.doc
And this:
IPS5.7.02 IPS National Agreement - FINAL DOCUMENT V2.doc
