D.O.M doing a morning safety walk up and down the street

weve just had a little bit of snow here,,,,,1st bit fell on friday morning,,,we have to have a stupid morning "huddle" every morning at 6am were we are told that the company is in a bad way and we need to improve,,,,yeah the usual crap,,,also he goes on to give us a weather report LOL,,,did u know we had low lying sun 1 day last week LOL.....anyway friday morn he tells us its going to rain later and cold,,,,,,,,i kid u not withing 10 mins the skylights in the roof had a covering of snow,,,so i dunno were his weather report comes from.

it wasnt a heavy day so were allsorted and near ready to go at 845,,,the dom shouts that no one can go till there has been a safety inspection of the conditions. LOL

the 2 bosses go for a walk up and down the street outside the office.....and return,,,,,the health and safety rep does the same after them,,,,ALL 3 dont go out on delivery?,,,,,,any way at 910 they call us to a meeting to tell us the conditions are "tolerable" LOL issue us with chains and send us out LOL

saturday morn,,,were only paid till 1130,,,,soooooo the walk is earlier as so not to hold us back,,,and they come out with the same "tolerable" but this time its spikes cos theres more ice around LOL

im all for safety at work but sometimes i think they go overboard,,,,,,,,1 week before xmas,,,and an inch or less of snow and are they gunna suspend delivery,,,LOL i think not.

it may seem stupid but its a h&s policy royal mail have brought in but this sinario is well over the top.
within WRAP (WALK RISK ASSESSMANT PLATFORM) you have a severe weather policy where the dom and rep do an inspection. but common sense must prevail and they both must judge the conditions first. try looking out the window for a start.

the old method of a severe weather action plan was developed three months prior to winter was fine but the new model has to be completed on the day with relevant drop down menu on the program.

when i completed mine, i submitted both the old and new severe weather action plan and both were accepted when SAC 3 was submitted to the national saftey team

50 deliveries in my office were left yesterday,The busiest day we have had this year by far,You had a choice of going out and delivering but dont take any risks,Or you could go out and deliver packets and leave the mail,Seeing as most had 3-4 drop bags you would have been better off just taking the lot and cutting off,Most decided to leave mail and take packets.
I delivered my round as normal and the conditions were ok,I have delivered in far worse.
Looking forward to the chaos tomorrow.
They had a few of us in this morning delivering loops off rounds,So now all that were left have 1 loop less,Bloody stupid,It will have minimal effect on the day from hell they are going to have tomorrow.

We had the same thing at our office on Satdee.

We had 5 people have accidents on their way into work though which i think made the gaffers panic like fcuk!

They had a walk around the streets directly outside and reported back it was "90% ok"

I don't think they grasped the fact that at the time it was 6am and by the time we were all ready to start deliveries it would be 830-9am + and thawing out... in fact it rained!

Told not to use Cycles - a few did anyway and to be honest i wish i did too because tomorrow is gonna be fun due to leaving half my walk in.

Ending up doing a van share with trolleys and doing what we could basically one walk plus half of mine - left all packets...again!

in scotland, the snow froze overnight, but no-one said diddly-squat, because they can't, posties fell umpteen times, one went sick after a fall, but managers regard for health and safety is governed by what happens next.... three days delivery in one day...impossible, so what's the alternative? they close their eyes and hope for the best!!! delivery spans must come down and we must do the job properly, THAT'S THE WAY FORWARD!!!

It rained first thing saturday morning and froze.Took ages to get up some paths so had to resort to walking on gardens.Took great delight laughing at the tool who shouted get off the grass as he ran out the door and promptly slid on his arse past me!Should have taken it all back but was worried about my tips

In our area saturday morning was just pure lethal. hard frost followed by rain freezing on contact. black ice everywhere. we have a very active h&s type union chappy who loves to walk about with the very h&s manager and woe betide any trolley approaching one of thier yellow floor lines or a dangerously hung picture on a sorting frame.
So saturday morning. one of the most lethal days I have known. wheres these h&s policy twonks and thier self righteous approach when it comes to this severe weather ?
no fxxxing where. thats where.
i hope no one got hurt.

ahh Ahthebad,,,,exactly,,,,,,we were chased out the building on thursday cos it was really heavy and they know the amount of ovetime we were gunna claim,,,,,now on the fri funnily enough were ready nearly an hour earlier and there walks outside the office took 45 mins,,,,,,,,,,then on to saturday,,,again were only paid till 11,,,,bad conditions under foot,,,,,get out there quick LOL

It was treacherous in our area Sat morn...... No safety inspection, in fact not a murmour on the conditions..... One lad fell of his bike was simply told he should not have been on it!!!!! Health and safety in our office is non existent. Even last winter in -12 with ice everywhere we all had to go out on delivery (never missed a day), then had our ears chewed for taking extra care and going over
