Open Xmas cards

I delivered a Xmas card today that had come unstuck, a minute later this woman comes out the door "oi, oi, postman... This is open, there was money in here!"

Now I know it came to my frame like this and with hind sight I should have taken it to a manager to put in a bag, but I've had numerous cards like this as I'm sure you all have.

I informed the chap in the locker when I got back to expect a complaint from the address.

So I'll be taking all my open cards to the managers office from now on, ain't worth the agro

That old chestnut eh? I just used to say that I hadn't noticed, give them the number for customer services. If they're not happy, tell them they can report it to the Police if they belief a theft has taken place. I know I've not done any wrong. Then inform the DOM that it was pointed out to you. In future, if you notice any before you leave, put them in a bag. If you notice them once you're out, not much you can do unless you want to knock on doors and start conversations?

or take it back to the office,show to phg, pop it in a bag, then show it to the Dom next morning explaining that you only noticed it while out on delivery so didn't want to post it in that state.

problem is with a lot of these Xmas card envelopes is that there is next to no gum on them and get a damp day and they come unstuck.
Or the poster has forgot to lick the thing down in the 1st place.
Who in there right mind would nick something out of a card and then deliver it
As the previous poster said give them Cust Serv number and tell your DOM

Exactly... most that I see have the flap tucked into back of the envelope. Putting an item in a damaged bag seem to flag up a problem to the receiver (I refuse to call them customers anymore)

I try to put some in bags, the worst looking ones usually but so many people are too f***ing idle to seal them properly or the glue is worthless that it becomes such a ridiculous job to do with every damaged card...

Maybe worth keeping a roll of Sellotape on everyones frame to tape over any opened cards. The receiver will never know the sender didn't tape it up

If they're not torn (and I don't mean tampered) I just used to tuck the edge under. If I noticed and could be bothered. I usually had better things to do than bother about the glue on people's envelopes. If they wanted to accuse me of theft then let them.

look at the end of the day maybe we should all take part in making sure these cards r in damage bags i sort all day and at the moment ive lost count the amount of opened cards i have came across and yeah thinking about it we should put them in the bags before they get to all of u after all we r all customers and if we never worked for the post office we would be thinking the same as the customer yourve pinched my money lol........ i do feel for u guys working on the front line ,every time i come across a opened christmas card i will be thinking of u

Why don't you put them in damage bags? any damaged cards should be put to one side and given to a manager to endorse then put into damage bag and then sorted!

Had a couple more today, this time straight to the managers office with them, one he taped up with "special" royal mail logo Sellotape, the other destroyed one went in a damage bag,

Well my faith in mankind has been restored.
The woman came out and apologised to me this morning saying there wasn't money in there after all!
