are 1st class stamps too expensive?

I noticed today that about 90% of the christmas cards i delivered today were carrying a second class stamp, has Royal mail made the price of a 1st class out of reach for the common people or have people realised there is no difference in service and opted to save money? It would be interesting to see the total sales figures for each from head office.

no they are far too cheap try sending a next day letterby anyone else and see what they charge think it 4 to 5 pounds with some of them

dont know about being too expensive but seen lady going in to newsagents today
carrying bundle of about 50 xmas cards held it over to shop assistant with a £5

honestly the bb are even undercutting us at xmas is this legal
no operating license but they do this every year and kids from bb go out and deliver them.
and guess what happens when kids cant be bothered yip into the postbox they go

only one deliverie now so whats the point getting first class stamps,at last the genral public
have sussed it out.as for stamps being to expensive your having a laugh dont you understand
that every bill you pay has gone up this year,just work out your own office staff wages and derv for your vans.
this is the cheapest service about yet still people say its to expensive they need to wake up.

Dpeends where your sending it I suppose. Sending it next door or a few streets away, yes. Sending it more than, say, 10 miles or more than walking distance, no.

I think it's more the nature of that type of mail than the first class stamps being overpriced. Why bother spending any extra cash sending Xmas cards first class when it doesn't really matter how long it takes for them to reach thier destination?

Same with adressed pizza mailshots, etc. As long as they arrive eventually, everybody is happy!

its only expensive when people stop using the service how high would it have to go ,if you used competition about 5 pound per item so its not even a issue yet, if you do large mailshots then it does seem quite expensive but the odd letter its still great value .

Far too cheap I think, if we charged more for first class we wouldn't have to rely on getting so much income from "junk" mail... that way everyone would be happy... we would be earning just as much revenue whilst carrying less mail and the recipient/customer would receive a quicker, better, more reliable service.

at xmas in particular 2cnd class is as quick as first class noticed that last year so maybe others have to as far as cost i reckon its value foe money ,

Too simplistic. All that would happen would be another shedding of workforce and even bigger rounds!

Don't forget the cost of a stamp has only gone up by 45pence in nearly 200 years!
