4 day week for 30hr contracts possible?

Hi all,

I've looked at the 'Menu of Duty Options' and see that there is a 4 day week option for three FULLTIME staff covering 2 walks, one of which is a floater?

My question is would this duty option work for 30hr contracts? So they would work 7hr 30min days and if that would be 3 staff covering 2 duties they would have about 5hrs for delivery and 2hrs for prep or partial prep with 30mins meal relief.

Have I understood this correctly and can anyone see any problems with that that would need ironing out if part timers were doing this option?

Yes you have.
There is no reason (in theory) why a 30 hr contract couldn't work a 4 day week as you have outlined.

the problem is rm mainly want part timers to do 6 hr days with no ips you would have to have a massive walk

The agreed delivery span and the f/t to p/t ratio will both have an effect on the attendance patterns.
In theory what has been proposed is possible. Whether there are local factors that render it unlikely......only his office will know.

Nice to know this is achievable, I can now ask around the depot (over 100 staff) to get a figure on how many 30hr guys want the 4 day week then go to the rep and tell him what we want. So far the fulltime staff I think are saying they want to stay the same with the day off weekly rotation but with the extra Saturday off every 6 weeks - the 8hr 15mins shift pattern with the extra 15mins each day covering the extra Sat.

I can see benifits to RM with this duty structure, the 30hr staff will be more motivated and ready for work after getting more rest days. Also there is the possibility of them being available to come in to work on their days off - if required. Nice point about only 10mins extra break per week for each person.

Look at it this way-

At the mo we are doing 5days a week at 30mins break per day equals 3hrs break per week on 30hr contract.

But working 4days a week for 7 1/2 hrs a day with 40mins break equals.......3hrs also.

So actually there wouldn't be 10mins more break time it's still 3hrs break per week on a 30hr contract! I think.

Not exactly.

On a 5 day week, 6hr shift:
5x30mins=2hr30mins
On a 4 day week, 7hr30min shift:
4x40mins=2hr40mins

So by working a 4 day week you would get 10 minutes of extra break per week.

Oh yes spot on Phill, I see my mistake in that 5 times 30mins is NOT 3hrs!!!

i'm on a 30hr contract and have been on four days a week since October, best thing i've done, long weekend every three weeks, great!
