New TPM tasks

We've been told that we are to be trained in 14 new TPM tasks in our roles of CSS operators.

Word is that the main ones are changing belts that currently are changed by engineers to save down time.

We have been assured by our "early life support" (brilliant job title) that its all been agreed on national level by the CWU.

Not that we'd have any reason to think Royal Mail don't always tell the truth (!) is this true ???

Dont know about rest of you but i struggle with the big long belts. Cant be arsed with having another load of belts put on tpm. Some operators can just look at the rollers the belt has come off and know how to put it back on. Some as fast as the engineers. I can do the simple ones easy enough but the long ones i ask one of the other oppos to give me a lift. Has this anything to do with the beloved world class mail.

It's something like 10 new belts, and a briefing on the software updates.

most of the belts are now TPM belts, and are simple enough (compared to some of the rediculous 3m long iLSM ones)

still, not heard anything from HQ about it despite asking about it and the new engineers policy of any belt that doesn't require tools the operator fits (fyi: operator only fits 9 iLSM belts, something like 20 CFC belts, 6 or so/16 CSS belts, no idea about FSM or IMP)

I've always found the engineers are quite protective of the work they do,
the more we can do, the less they would be required, they might (and maybe quite rightly) see it as a threat to job security,
one of the most frequent faults i've found with CSS machines are the "Electro valves" (if i remember the name right),
the slightest bit of crap in them, and they fail, i've enquired about our staff being allowed to routinely clean them as they fail quite frequently and look a piece of piss to sort out, but i was flat out denied.

you should be cycling the EV's (electrovalves) everyday as part of your TPM tasks (purging them of gunk and checking proper operation).

there is a button on the left sidebar onscreen called Cycle EV's (can''t remember the tab), press it with the conveyors on and you should hear a patterned series of "pop's".

If something doesn't sound right (e.g. the machine is skipping one "pop") notify the engineer asap to investigate

I do cycle the valves, usually it's the first thing i do when i turn the machine on.
