Jimmy, I think the rate for doing the complete job, throwing in, kill offs, redirections, bagging up and ready to go out is 12.5 items per minute based on bsi100. But as the union has only accepted a max of 75-80% this brings this down to around 9 items per minute, so if you are doing 24 you must be some kind of superhuman guy. For christ sake slow down, they will have us all doing it or else.

Jimmy, they use prep testing as an Intimidation tactic and it's seam's to be working on you.Reeelllllaaxxxx and let them test you.Best to do it with a smile as well .You''ll get a bit of pressure and harassment for a few weeks or months.Eventually they'll move on and pester someone else.

jimmy your overall prep time is from first letter in frame until closing catch on last bag. So for you it is 1800/130 mins which is still 13.8 by my calcs. Very good speed you would have no problems passing a test. Tell them where to stick it

What happens if managers decide to prep test you when you have already thrown in some mail? Their test rates are based on throwing into an empty frame, or so I believe. In which case, do you get someone to witness that the frame contained mail (making the test void in theory), or can you fling the mail out of the frame (which will take time to re-prep and possibly create even more cut-off)?

I take it if a vague address turns up during the test, or any mail where the address has slipped outside the window, you just put them to one side?

Given that I believe this test does not involve checking the accuracy of the sorting, what are the consequences for willful missorts?

At what point does repetitive prep testing (on the same day or over a number of days) become a bullying and haressment issue?

Has anyone ever had the gall to stand there not sorting, perhaps chatting randomly to the person with the stopwatch (or wandering off to the loo or canteen), for the whole duration of the prep test?

Following full implementation, when all employees and managers are fully aware of the required performance standards, it is accepted by both parties that the use of the formal one-minute checks to evaluate a fully-trained individual’s performance, would not be appropriate. The only exception to this might be when an individual’s capability to meet the standard is brought into question due to the length of time they may have been away from the task they are due to perform e. g. the individual has been performing other duties for a year and the use of a one-minute check may indicate to the manager that they may require support or refresher training.

They tried this crap on with us a couple of months ago. They would time us from our start time up until we were ready to bag up, then count the number of items in the frame and work out our average speed. The average for the office was 17 items per minute, with most people in the 15-19 range (although there were a few under 10), so 24 is a very good score. Nothing ever came of it though, just a pointless initiative intended solely to harass and intimidate.

Im talking prepping my duty Fish, not IPS sorting. Where do I stand with that?? What would a 1 minute test prove??

PS that 18 packets a minute on the DBF is immense quality! Doubt anyone can do that!!

There is no agreed test for prepping your full duty.
They will tell you there is...they will tell you that IWT is agreed and IWT says you should be doing this,that and the next thing but it's all bollocks.
IWT is a resourcing tool not a performance tool.
They can count your letters till they run out of fingers and toes but they can't do anything with it while we have an agreed performance procedure...the 1 minute test.
What does a 1 min test prove?....f**k all...that's the whole point.
