Spikies

So i got my spikies back in july wore them today as it was rather icy but halfway round my walk i noticed the spikes had fallen off now i realise they are not designed for patchy ice but more for packed snow+ice.

Is there any official documents on the use of spikies? Are they mandatory kit like the post it peg?

we really need the old style chains for when it is patchy ice / snow and spikies for when it is compacted snow / ice

I still have a pair of chains which will hopefully see me through any snow etc this winter and I know our DOM has got the spikies but won't dish them out until we get some snow etc

You can replace the spikes apparently according to our DOM

Yes i was given replacement spikes when i got back DO.

They were a bit hit or miss last year. I wore mine on ice once and they did help but the spikes had worn almost flat within one delivery

At least the old chains used to last a couple of winters.

Ive seen spikies on ebay for £3.75 delivered and the look the same as RM issue

Like everything Royal Mail nothing they supply is ever that good!

And they never let me down in the last three winters I used them. Best used with Magnum shoes or similar. Not really suitable for the caterpiller shoes as their studs tend to get in the way.
