Anybody know how you go about getting a transfer to another part of the country?
Anybody got any experience of doing it?
Was it fairly straightforward?
How long did it take?

Put a transfer request in by all means,rule of thumb though is best to go to the office/s where you want to go to and see them personally.

Thanks for that Postman. The office is at the other end of the country but I suppose I could contact them directly and take it from there.

through my experience re transfers, which is ongoin right now - the whole pretence of a transfer system is a joke. i've been trying to get a transfer down south for 6 months - ive got 18 years full time service and i have indicated that i would drop my hours to 30 so they would accomodate me - but no - what RM are looking for now is to take on 20 hour rolling contracts, all temporary, which means there is now no way in for full-time employees. why have a transfer system if it is not fir for purpose - HR have been non-existent, so have the union...i approached 3 offices personally - they told me they all had vacancies but would not transfer me as they only want rolling contracts - what a joke for such a large company!

i hope i haven't put you off but the system is pointless these days - if you know any information that i dont then please pass it on...good luck

Have the offices you've contacted done their revision, I know ours is taking on full time once the revision has been completed.

Finally got my transfer to new office but house fell through this week but will move in next friday
for definate so have got monday as a day off then doing B&B for 2 days in new area with job then back in old
area for 2 days to move as they owe me 2 days then move up to new area on friday and back to work
next Saturday...SIMPLES !!!

Hi TheProgster, how long had you been trying?, i started the process in Sept, looks like they (Royal Mail) won't let me go until New year, i'm moving 100 miles away, complete on my house next week, it's a nightmare, my transfer might fall through if i'm kept waiting, i lost out on two other places, 'cos they won't let me go.
