Only time ive ever got over £30 was about ten years back when i helped a family get their wayward grandson a job at the mail center and it kinda put his feet back on the ground. They were very pleased and at xmas time they gave me a card. I dont open any cards on the round, but wait till i get home and when i did it contained £40 I thought it was too much really and next day i offered them £30 back (they were pensioners). However they would not accept so that was a very nice tip.

Told all your employees it's illegal have you? No you haven't. No one has informed me of s**t regards xmas tips (and much more besides). What's the point of writing a press release to the media stating all RM employees have been told ££30 is illegal when clearly a large number of posties have not been told anything of the sort. How poor is this organisation? Lying to the media without a second thought about the effect their 'story' will have on staff. Strange how there's no mention about the incredible task xmas brings nor any calming words to the public about the unbelievable callers office experience that customers are put through at this time of year.

How hypocritical, my manager threw me off my walk, so that a more senior postie could do it over xmass, because the tips were very good on that walk. So I guess my DOM has no problem with his posties taking bribes, even sorts them with the best walks to take them lol !


Funny also that our politicians accept free holidays, free dinners in swanky restaurants and all sorts of freebies off their rich powerful backers, and thats ok for them. But hand a postie a £30 voucher and thats terrible, its a bribe, sack him, lock him up.

Actually your able to a except small give as long as it no more than £50, tax purposes.

Posties can't except more than £50 or the taxman maybe after them.

The business code of standards states...

That's been the case for a long time.

Its not too bad in the comments for once, in fact most are good just a few bad apples though as always.

The postal service has been so bad in our area they should be paying me. They get paid, they get bonuses, they can skive off if the wind blows the wrong way - what more do they want.

They have no need to worry - I won't be tipping. The service is rubbish. Counter staff are fine, it's just the delivery staff that don't provide an even half decent service. They leave packages on the doorstep for all & sundry to see (& make off with), & they throw items over the 6ft high gate, to break as they fall. All in all, not worth even considering at Christmas. My paperboy is the only one who'll get a tip this year.

Why should would anyone want to tip postmen who now deliver at 1pm, often to the wrong house, or deliver the wrong post? While we're at it, why would anyoneone tip dustbin men who strew rubbish on the roads and pavements, leave your whellie bin half way down the road and sometimes leave half the rubbish in the bin. In case you do this sort of thing, lets make it plain and simple. It is their job. You have already paid for their services. Don't reward their deteriorating quality of service with a tip!

Doesn't he feel emasculated at earning such a pittance? I would if I earned that low. I wouldn't be able to live off it. Why doesn't he go out and get a better paid job, or go back to college and get some more qualifications? - Richard, Reading, 04/12/2011 09:15..
