Earliler starts for Xmas

Not seen any posts for earlier starting times for xmas,at my office next week some FT are starting at 4.30 rest are in for 5.I asked the Dom hypothetical question if everyone worked 5 till 1 and nobody wanted to do OT what would happen,his reply was in your contract it says Xmas you have to complete your delivery so no cutting off,is this true?
Not too keen on doing loads of OT but i've never seen anyone ever cut off in my office.

Normal start and finish times remain in place, in our DO.

What we have been offered is an hour SA in front of our normal start times and a further 1 hour (or any part of) OT in front of that.

So effectively up to 2 hours earlier starts than usual.

However, it is all voluntary. Take it or leave it, up to us.

Xmas OT is not in your contract and you can opt out. Just put it down in writing that you will not be performing any OT over the xmas pressure and hand it to him.

My office has agreed to 5am starts over the pressure. Myself i have done this many times and it involves getting up at 3.30am which is knackering over the 2 weeks, so this year ive opted out of OT and will be starting at 6am

I havent even been asked about extra hours/change of times this xmas
which will be interesting due to the duties i cover
mind you our office works so well we posties/managers in at 4am outwith xmas sorting mail.........

Ask him to show you the contract. .I bet, he'll either make excuses or throw a temper tantrum. That's the whole point of offering scheduled attendance.It's there as incentive to cover the extra work.Last year, duty's and packets failed in our office.So this year there's a bit more scheduled attendance.

SA - £9.81 per hour.

OT (first 10hrs) - £9.54 per hour

Long, long time since I did over 10 hours.

£8.41 would be my guess but you'll have to ask someone that does it these days.

Mind you with Christmas pressure starting next week I might find out for myself.

You do not have to do any overtime. Just work your contracted hours

Why on earth should you have to put it in writing? Are we still at school and need a note from our mums to say we can't work over our time. f**k em, they have s**t on us all year from a huge height so they get told on a daily basis if I will be cutting off. Why give them the chance to cover duties by telling them in a letter over the Xmas period.
