Well I finished my round at 12.10 pm today, and got back home and started to watch the football on my computer, anyway game finished had something to eat, then the post came at 4.00pm !!, 4.00 pm on a Saturday ! through the week it usually comes around 3.00pm, so I was surprised it was later on Saturday. The post is always late where I live, the postie tells me that my street is in the middle of their walk, so again shocked when I got it. Anyway I will get to my point. In my office the revisions have not came in yet, they are just starting to begin them, changing the fitting etc etc. However, where I live the revisions took place around a year ago, and all deliveries are P & L. So as I have said since I have worked at RM I always finish my walk and been back home for quite some time before the postie gets to my street in the middle of their walk. Therefore, how can these revision be more efficient than the old system ? How can this be a better service for the customer ? I understand RM when they claim that new fittings and general revisions in the setup of the DO may make things more efficient, but P & L to me seems completely inefficient both in time, manpower and environmentally; in my opinion it should be dropped from these revision. Is there any chance that this may happen ? I mean what percentage of DO have P & L and what has been the overall affect on service, is it like my street and post is really late, or is my street an exception and most posties doing P & L actually finish earlier than they did before P & L.

If there were enough complaints about late mail, would RM bite the bullet and accept that P & L is a failure and revert back to the old system of one postie one walk, and bag boxes and foot deliveries back.

Am I from the DO ? if you mean am I a postie that works in a delivery office, then yes. If you mean am I management, then you just need to see that I can string a coherent sentence together without the need for spell check, so obviously that means I am not management, Furthermore, you have actually insulted my intelligence if you accuse me of being management ! Yes it's inefficient.

No it doesn't matter how many complaints RM get they will not back down thier standard response is....

"Due to falling mail volumes RM has had to modernise the way it does business. This may initially mean the services are slightly disrupted but mail will be delivered only slightly later than it was previously. Once the modernisation program has been fully implemented, services should be very much uneffected!"


They know it doesn't work but they have wasted so much money trying to make work that there is no way back now!


Enjoy your pre-revision rounds because once your office gets it you will probably find that unless you are one of the very lucky few high seniority bods or the office managers chief butt monkey, you will be working to time virtually every day!

Well it doesn't bother me any more. Once you get your head around the idea it can be quite relaxing! I get to do all the bits of my walk I like and just cut off the bits I'm not so keen on! No rushing around which is nice!

Sliders you are under the misapprehension that RM management, at any level, are actually concerned about quality of service. They are not, as evidenced by the P&L debacle. Posties are becuase we meet our customers but mangement are not end of. It's all about an empty office and meeting cut back targets for them. Get over it.

Quite funny today, one of the managers and a RM guy overseeing the revision in my office, told us that we will have our contracted hours reduced and our walk revised and increased in length, ; not one person said hold on, that does not add up. I was going to say something myself but thought I better not since I am only a part timer with a temp contract , plus if the full timers don't give a stuff then who is going to listen to me In fact DOM asked us if there were any questions and the room fell silent. I was going to have a word with my union rep, but he was too busy rolling over and getting his tummy tickled of the DOM I guess there arn't many mathematicians in my DO, either that or like I said nobody gives a stuff, probably the latter
