Work time listen and learning

Post by beastman »

Just trying folks to gather some information for my forthcoming tribunal - I was sacked for willful delay. Please see my thread for a mammoth read.
As a part timer I missed out on these meetings and would like to ask a couple of things:

1. How often did you have them generally?

2. In the main what was in them? (I'm guessing heath and safety etc - anything else important?)

3. How often would procedures concerning cutting off, willful delay be mentioned?

4. I'm assuming that if someone was sacked/suspended/disciplined for cutting off or willful delay would thing be something management would inform staff about as a genuine means to guide staff to avoid further occurrences?

Sorry to change the subject a little, but am I the only one that finds the name "Work Time Listening And Learning" to be quite condescending?

1) Generally we should have WTLL once a week, but it doesn't always happen, so maybe once a month if we're very unlucky.

2) The general content is usually Management rubbish, spin and H & S stuff, like wearing your Hi Vis etc. It should also be used by the workers to tell Management how WE feel.

3) Never. Cutting off is covered in the Conduct Code, and you should of been made aware of the procedure at your training. Willful Delay is NOT a Procedure but a Conduct CHARGE and is also covered in the Conduct code.

4) No, because that is nobodys business but yours, but word would get out, as it does so everyone would be aware of the situation.

hope this helps and good luck.

I, as a part time afternoon worker rarely had one. We often arrived to find no manager on site. If, on the rare occasion there was something they needed us to sign to say we'd been told, it was invariably just a sheet handed to us to read.
Does this rag smell of chloroform to you?

I have commented on said mammoth read already! In WTL at my DO if it's something important a sheet goes round for everyone to sign to say they've attended and participated, nearly always WTL is before the PT staff commence their duty so they never get the information unless they all go up after the FTers, this doesn't always happen as far as I know, ask to see the WTL session when the relevant info was shared and if your name isn't on the list as attending then use it, can't do any harm can it!

I'm a touch surprised by that response but then again I was a part timer so what would I know! On a serious note though, the overunning deliveries procedure specifically mentions WTL & L meetings and wilful delay:

http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... hp?id=1511" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So that said, why would it not be mentioned in these meetings? Sorry to push the point its just that I was sacked for wilful delay and feel not being part of this process contributed to my circumstances.

So are you saying, you never knew the Cutting off procedure and did not know what Willful delay was?

Management do hold their staff in contempt, and so-called "work time listening and learning" is a symptom of aforementioned contempt.

What I'm saying is I could only go on what I'd heard from various people, yes some managers said some things and other staff had their versions of what could and couldn't be done. In an ideal world one would always believe what a manager says but...........

I was never given any document explaining it in black and white and frankly when I look at the procedure now I thinks its pretty pitiful and open to interpretation. For example the Overrunning Deliveries OPG Notification Procedure is an 11 page document and only 1 sentence in it refers to what should be done AFTER commencement of a delivery. Not trying to say your wrong, rather that RM is inept in the way it handles this.

It's your training that they will look at,especially if it's down on record.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

hi. newbie here with a question!

if on delivery you come to a miss sorted piece of post which for example is at the end of your route but for a house at the other end of your route - if you bring this post back with the intention of posting it tomorrow = is this wilful delay and therefore sackable offence?

Last time this cropped up at my place manager said to me that if you sorted/prepped it then it's your mistake and you should correct it in your time, if someone else threw the walk out it's not your mistake then you should return it to the office by whatever means available (we don't return to the office, finish on street where I work, so draw your own conclusions as to where it goes, even if it's my mistake..) -whether or not that is correct procedure, I know not!

As for original question; we have wtll probably every fortnight, sometimes every week if we're unlucky - they seem keen to pick up people that have missed (due to being on sick/leave etc) -the vast majority are H&S related - the last few have focused on bad weather, footwear, aod's and causes.. PTs have theirs when they come in, so they are keen to grab them too - obviously there have been issues in the past and they are keen to educate people on what's right and wrong...
