Going off sick

I've had back problems for the last few weeks and I've tried to work through the pain barrier as I have a transfer coming up after Christmas, but after working til 18.00 last night, it finally took it's toll and I had to come home early today.

If I was to have a week off (pretty sure the doc would say this) would I;

1. Still be able to get a transfer? (I think it's 2 weeks until you're put on a stage one)
2. Get sick pay? (I have been working as a Postie since Sept 2008, part time on a permanent contract)

14 days or 4 periods will put you on stage 1. 6 months full sick pay. if your transfer is signed and sealed you should be alright, although managers look at sick/conduct records of proposed transfer ins

I can understand your worries about the transfer and the anxiety which goes with it.

However you have injured your back by prob overstretching and that’s the beginning and the end of it and you now need time to rest and recover.
If you keep trying to carry on you will most likely cause soft tissue damage which take a long time to fix.

Go see your doc who will most likely sign you off for a week with pain killers. Try to keep mobile when you are off to loosen it up. Keep your dom informed and ask about some light duties when you go back or at least a few days taking out half the delivery.

Everyone has some kind of muscular problem from time to time and if your sensible about it I cannot see it affecting your transfer.

Your transfer should only be affected if you are on an attendance procedure stage.
