I still don't know what the point of lapsing is, I mean in my DO we have six posties (including me) delivering on the same street (80 houses), just different sections. Is this not just plain stupid. It's seems an incredible waste of time, effort, money (overtime) and manpower, to get so many posties going to the same street instead of giving one postie the round. Why can't RM just employ people to deliver every round that there is in a DO, instead of breaking rounds up and sharing it out between everyone in the office.

On heavy days, it adds overtime for me, as I don't finish my normal round until, 2.30 3.00pm then I have to walk 20 minutes to get the street I lapse then deliver there. So your right the management are idiots, is the best answer.

however if for example you cover a full walk in OT @ a cost of 8 hours(2 people 4 hours each)
vs lapsing and paying out less than 8 hours OT. its a no brainer for the dim

what time does your duty finish? I ask because if its at 14:30 and you return to the office you can create even more ot and negotiate the completion of your duty and the absorbtion prior to commencing it. giving you the opportunity to decline it if you don't think its worth your time.

You should not be doing lapsing/absorption on heavy days,unless of course you still finish early on heavy days then you have no arguement.
Your rep should be sorting this out with the Dom in there weekley resourcing meeting.

It was originally put in place for the summer months FOR THOSE WHO HAVE SPARE TIME IN THEIR DUTY and should have reaped rewards for staff as well as RM. In BT2010 it was stated that it would allow more summer leave slots for the office which a large percentage of us would have welcomed. I would like to know of any office who has been granted extra sumer leave...... Like I said totaly abused by RM, no advantage to employees take, take, take never any give and they wonder why some of us don't do it !!!!!!!!!!

Hmmm we are having similar problems seem to be viewed by RM as a privalage nowadays rather than our rights

Same in my office, holidays are like hens teeth but then it's nothing to do with DOMs using the leave budget to fund the normal running of the office.

Having about 6 Royal Mail vans and posties all parked up on the same street delivering makes us look ridiculous to the general public. No wonder they think we are useless. It's quite embarrassing, not to mention a waste of fuel driving to the lapsing everyday, which for most of us is a drive in the opposite direction to where we are going. It all adds up over the weeks.

This really depends on what duty I am on, if its a hard duty then 3.00 - 3.30, if its an easy duty such as when I cover my union reps duty then 1.30-2.30 pm.

Still lapsing in my office, next week too (although they've generously cut back the amount we have to lapse)

Extra time off in summer - not a chance, the best we had was people being almost bullied into taking spare days off so we could perform even more lapsing due to less staff in.. As long as it suits them then we can have it, otherwise it's a case of f**k off..

As for lapsing - you can't compare just overtime against hours, it's about no need to pay sick/hoiday pay etc - the little things together make it worthwhile for them, even if some overtime is booked each week..
