this was the instruction passed on to us by the lino today. obviously passed onto him by that arsehole of a dom. he says if we have mail for schools, community centres, civic centre, bail hostels etc etc,,,,on the day of public sector strikes next week, then it MUST be delivered even if it means crossing an official picket line......they can whistle. i aint crossing any line.

It's a H&S issue.........if we feel in any danger then we just don't go into that situation.....simple

No - IMHO not crossing their picket line does not indicate either support or lack of it, to any cause. Only your own actions and responses to questions can do that.

Deciding to support a picket line, or not, is an individual choice, but in my opinion, crossing a picket line has to take into account your own safety, safety of the picket line, safety of the public and safety of the mail. If in your opinion, divorced from whether you support the strikers aims or not, if any of those points of safety may be compromised then in all fairness any manager must, following RMs own guidelines, support your choice. Of course in the real world a nasty manager may use the fact of not crossing a picket line as an excuse to take action against you, so always make sure you fully understand your reasons for not crossing.

Flying Pickets in the 80s were members of the same Union that supported a picket line not at their own workplace, at the time it was entirely legal. After Thatcher its not.

So, do we or don`t we? What`s the CWU stance on this and, probably more importantly, what`s the management stance?
I know previously we were told to take mail out and bring it back if there`s a picket line, but considering the constant B & H from managers now and there need/want to get rid of staff by fair means or foul how should we approach next wednesday? (remember, going sick is the cowards way out )

Our retirement age was increased and pension decreased at the stroke of a pen and a whimper. These other unions are making a stance over their pensions and every credit to them HOWEVER you would have to consider very carefully if you want the aggravation defending others pensions when ours was considered not to be worth defending for precisely the same reasons that these unionist are making a stance.

it does not matter what royal mail or the cwu stance is on crossing picket lines,its something you never ever do,crossing a picket line is the same as being a scab
