Re: MANAGERS DOING OPG WORK
Keith, I don't think it was a link, it was more of a local agreement, could be wrong though

Re: MANAGERS DOING OPG WORK
Managers will not take on any kind of OPG work, unless under extreme circumstances where the USO is considered to be under a severe threat.
2. A daily meeting will take place between the local management team and the local CWU Rep to discuss if there is a threat to the USO and of any need for managers to carry out OPG work.
3. Any OPG work carried out by managerial grades will be logged and signed off by the DOM and the local rep whenever (2) is deemed necessary.
4. A joint CWU/RM report of OPG work undertaken by managers at Delivery Office will be sent to the DSM and the CWU Area Rep providing a demonstrable account of what work was carried out and why. Traffic levels and staff profile for the affected days will form part of this report.
Try getting an agreement like this in your office. (Thanks Fishtank)

Re: MANAGERS DOING OPG WORK
GMC has a similar agreement, although .....still get the odd manager trying it on , odd being the operative word
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

happens every day in our office
reps show no interest in addressing it (i have raised it)
more interested in ensuring they carve out nice duties for themselves

Is there an official document stating this?weirdo wrote:Managers will not take on any kind of OPG work, unless under extreme circumstances where the USO is considered to be under a severe threat.

Re: MANAGERS DOING OPG WORK
Delivery Office Agreement
Managers performing OPG work
A meeting was held between XXXXXXX, XXXXXXXX, XXXXXXXX, XXXXXXX, and XXXXXXXX on 20/04/2011. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the forthcoming fully bundled revision and other office issues. Obtaining a 'true reflection' of where our office is prior to the fully bundled revision and beyond, and Managers' carrying out indoor and outdoor OPG work was discussed. Following on from this meeting another meeting was held between XXXXXXXX(DOM) and XXXXXXXX (CWU) on 16/05/2011 to jointly draw up a local agreement. The following standards have been agreed;

It's a local agreement.
Every office should have one.
If you want one go to disagreement over the use of the Indoor Work Tool until you get one.
How can you have a true reflection of Indoor Work if the tools are doing the work.

Re: MANAGERS DOING OPG WORK
Don't like these "Local" Agreements...too much room for the management to wriggle out of things!
I can see the point of things like starting a bit earlier or perhaps swapping duties etc but WHY should all 1500 offices have to negotiate something like this?
Big Office...Good Rep....Active Membership = Good Result, but how many other Offices are having work "Stolen" from Staff by Management just seeking to push their Bonuses Up!

Re: MANAGERS DOING OPG WORK
Happens all over the country probably. I wonder how long it'll take higher up management to notice. They could demote most managers (below shift manager/DOM level) back down to normal opg rate plus whatever the leadership allowance), they would save shitloads of money.

Re: MANAGERS DOING OPG WORK
It looks like you have a disagreement over staffing levels.keithposty wrote:thanks for the replies people but do we have anything in writing i can throw at the dsm

It seems the budget in your office is being used to pay for more managers than is required but there is a shortage of OPGs. The evidence for this is that managers are doing OPG work during the time they should be performing their managerial duties.
If management disagree that managers are doing CWU grade work, a good way to resolve this dispute would be to get management to agree to managers being measured. If managers are doing CWU grade work and not catching up on their own work in their own time, you can argue for management hours to be taken off your template and for the savings to be invested in more CWU grade hours.
You will have to let the managers get measured by one of their colleagues on the same grade.
This is how you will get your "cold hard facts".

Re: MANAGERS DOING OPG WORK
This is rife in our office the manager takes over the PHG role in the callers office and sends the PHG out on collections and part deliveries, he now has him taking vans to the OMV garage for inspections. This is work that was always covered by the delivery postmen, the PHG is not to happy as he feels he is being picked on, the postmen are not happy because they are more than happy to do this work to try and get a few hours extra.Only the manager is happy because he is impressing the DSM. The issue was raised at our WTL and the managers reply was that he has got to maximise savings where ever he can find them and the DSM grees with him so there is no point in us complaining.
