work place coach
we have a work place coach in place, who was selected by a manager 12 month's ago. there were several applicants for the post and as it returns a financial reward they want a reselection for the coming year. i wondered if this happens elsewhere or is the coaches post an earner for life?

Re: work place coach
I think it is a job for life unless they voluntarily give it up or there are questions about their competency.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

It isn't up for grabs in a duty selection.silly suffolk wrote:money. its 30 quid a week and percieved as doing jack for it.fishtank wrote:Who wants a reselection and why suffolk?
It's a management assigned job so unless the current WPC gives it up or is no longer capable or willing to perform the role it stays where it is.
There is an agreement that backs it up. http://www.cwu.org/assets/_files/docume ... tion_T.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: work place coach
thanks fish, it looks like the other hopefuls will have to stir the muck with the manager to try and shift him, but i can't see it happening. it doesn't help that the incumbent coach is on ex phg's allowance. when time's get tough one individual earning £50 a week more cause's strife. thats life i suppose.fishtank wrote:It isn't up for grabs in a duty selection.silly suffolk wrote:money. its 30 quid a week and percieved as doing jack for it.fishtank wrote:Who wants a reselection and why suffolk?

Re: work place coach
So really in your office Suffolk, you or/and a lot of the members just want him ousted for financial gain.
Talk about stabbing someone in the back, all because he receives an allowance or two. soladarity and all that.
Is it serious assualt or GBH from certain people in your office if you do some OT that they usually do???
I hope he puts a grievance in for bully/harrassment against any member who starts a campaign to get him ousted. Because that's exactly what it will be.
As for you Panther "Most are blue eyes" ?? I'm assuming you mean MOST workplace coaches do something favourably for manangement and are given preferential treatment in EVERY office ??
Can you back that up with evidence? Statements from members regarding all workplace coaches in every office in the UK??
I'm a workplace coach, Panther and i'm far from being a so called "Blue eyed boy".
I was chosen (no one else wanted to do it) by the management to fill this role.
For the £30 and pennies allowance a week, i do nothing. Why? Because DOMS & DLMS think they can do everything themselves and don't need my input.
If that's what they want, so be it. I shall take the allowance and do as i'm asked.

Re: work place coach
i said the perception was the coach didn't do anything, and also there were several candidates for the coaches posistion last year. i personally believe our coach do's a good job, but who's to say some one else wouldn't be as good? as they say, no jobs for life now.smartbhoy wrote:So really in your office Suffolk, you or/and a lot of the members just want him ousted for financial gain.

Re: work place coach
As a workplace coach is classed as a specialist duty and has a selection process to fill it,and as a specialist duty it does not need to go into a re-sign the person holding that duty can hold it for life as long as the duty exists.silly suffolk wrote:i said the perception was the coach didn't do anything, and also there were several candidates for the coaches posistion last year. i personally believe our coach do's a good job, but who's to say some one else wouldn't be as good? as they say, no jobs for life now.smartbhoy wrote:So really in your office Suffolk, you or/and a lot of the members just want him ousted for financial gain.

Re: work place coach
Most people on here moan about people not doing the job properly.
What better opportunity to teach new starts right from the beginning how to do the job by the book, where the union rep is,how to join the union, what managers can and can't get away with and how to stand up for yourself than have a decent workplace coach.
The problem is many offices have a useless workplace coach.
It's not the position that's pointless...it's a lot of the people in post who are.
The union missed a trick on this, they should have demanded input in the recruiting process.
It's an organisational goldmine waiting to be tapped for them,if we had union sympathisers instead of too many management pets the role we would increase membership in a big way and help to strengthen an office.

Re: work place coach
I have said this before and I'll say it again - our WPC is excellent, he is all that Fishtank has described in what you want for a good one.fishtank wrote:Most people on here moan about people not doing the job properly.
