Cutting off
Just an observation about a lot of posts on the forum. It seems that cutting off is advised a lot on the forum. This might be alright for full-timers, and even a lot of part-timers, however, for part timers like myself, doing overtime is the only way to come out at the end of the week with a half decent wage. So I say if your a part timer and need the money, then bring on the overtime, the more the better, especially this time of year, and its not about helping the managers out, its about helping my bank balance out, which at the moment is looking pretty flimsy. Anyone else actually like me, and want the overtime ?

Re: Cutting off
That's fine and i understand your reasoning and the need to supplement your wages but...what you do,what you agree to do and what you feel you have to do has an effect on the way Royal Mail resources the company.
As long as part time members...and full-time members
are willing to fill their boots with overtime there will be no full-time job at the end of the rainbow for you.
As long as you fully understand that all actions have consequences and do not spend any time griping about the unfairness of it all i wish you nothing but the best of luck.

Re: Cutting off
If you want the overtime, and are willing to do it then do it. It's those that are bullied and harassed into doing it and tricked into doing it that are generally advised to cut off etc.
It's not like someone on a 1 hour or even a 10 hour contract can be expected to survive on that wage.

Yes I agree with you, bullying and harassment should not be tolerated, and to be honest if a manager tried to bully me I'd tell them to f*** off.TeeferTiger wrote:If you want the overtime, and are willing to do it then do it. Of course I know, I have hobbies also, but not everyone can live on a part time wage, I mean I have a lot of debt that needs paying off, so I want to do overtime to be able to pay that of quicker. I mean I just simply cannot get by comfortably on £174 a week. I know my friends who work in other jobs, love overtime, again its more money for them.

Well I think the union are the ones that should be putting pressure on RM to change there practices with regard to recruitment of full-time jobs and part-time jobs, not part time workers like me. All I know is that without overtime my wage would not cover my outgoings (i.e bills, food , etc etc). Sure I would have liked to have been given longer hours on my contract, but the fact is I was not, so If your asking if I should consider not doing overtime, and therefore go short of cash for a week, just to show Royal Mail, that I don't agree with there recruitment policies, then I am afraid I wont do it, I wont be cutting my nose of to spite my face.

Re: Cutting off
Cutting off is really an incorrect title for this thread. This is about full time or part time colleagues doing a fair days work within their contracted hours and being allowed to go home without the fear or reprisals, harrassment, victimisation and any other discrimination thrown at them by management. Anyone who wishes to do overtime, whether it be for financial or any other reason, should be free to do this without being discriminated against, but also this should not be done out of fear of threat of losing your job, for instance if you are on a fixed term contract. The title should be Completion of Overrunning deliveries.

Re: Cutting off
Cutting off referred to on this site is generally used by full time workers. Doing 40/39 hours a week is enough for alot of of people. No one expects part timers to feel the need to cut off for the sake of it. I am sure many need to make their hours up to full timers levels to survive.
I am full time and will not work over. Fortunately I can survive on my wages. The main irritation I think with o/t, is the pressure some managers use to force people into it. No ones saying don't do it. Just don't do it if you don't want to do it!

No i don't expect you to make any pointless gestures, yes i do think the union should do more to ensure that this supposed 75/25 full-time/part-time split is...Sliders wrote: Well I think the union are the ones that should be putting pressure on RM to change there practices with regard to recruitment of full-time jobs and part-time jobs, not part time workers like me. 1. adhered to (which it plainly isn't).
2. Not used to maintain higher than average full-time levels in some areas at the expense of others(which it plainly is).
My point,as it always is on this site is that members are fully armed with all the facts before they make decisions so that they are fully aware of the consequences of those decisions.
How a business like this can justify the overtime bill it has and at the same time justify the redundancies and the continual recruitment of less than full-time contracts is one of the great mysteries of the 21st century.

Re: Cutting off
Many people seem to quick to criticise those who don't conform to their own views, a bit more tollerence being needed as it's everyone's own personal choice, whether part time or full time, whether or not to work any overtime offered.

Go for it!! Tell a manager to f off. See what happens. Conduct code was the basic punishment in my office. Just keep calm and not swear.Sliders wrote:Yes I agree with you, bullying and harassment should not be tolerated, and to be honest if a manager tried to bully me I'd tell them to f*** off.TeeferTiger wrote:If you want the overtime, and are willing to do it then do it. And what if it's the manager doing the swearing? What punishment do they receive?...Oh I forget, they can do and say anything they want and get away with it.sidewinder wrote: Go for it!! Re: Cutting off
i'm in the full time group who are coming to the end of their careers in royal mail but i can see why some of the part time staff need overtime to make up their wages.
i would hate to be bringing up a family nowadays with part time wages so if the lad who started the thread feels that he does'nt want to cut offthats fine,me i wont work a minute over my time but everybody's different.

Re: Cutting off
They will get away with it if you let them, In the 90.s this happened to me, lucky I had a witness and the manager got a right telling off, when I entully stood as Del Rep, he had it in for me and I finally got him moved out of the office."And what if it's the manager doing the swearing? What punishment do they receive?...Oh I forget, they can do and say anything they want and get away with it.
I don't condone swearing if my colluegue want to use it, as long as the usual ladys word is not used, but if someone in authority tells you to F**K Off then that is wrong.
