I posted this on Facebook site "What's going on in West Lothian"
Has anyone else been having problems with birthday cards going missing in the mail.? My Mum has sent 4 birthday cards recently, 2 in July and 2 in October, all to different areas of Livingston and they have not been delivered. Apparently all Livingston mail is collected and then is sent to Edinburgh for sorting before being sent back to Livingston for delivery. I contacted the depot at Fairbairn road and was told to report it on the Royal Mail website but it is an absolutely disgraceful site as it just has you going round in circles.

I have had 5 replies since yesterday reporting missing mail, incorrectly delivered mail and OPENED mail to extract money. I know money is not supposed to be put in the envelopes but then a sealed envelope is not supposed to be opened by anyone other than the recipient. Can this be investigated?????

Livingston is wonder full place. I'm sure Livingston was on the failing list. Revision list. Maybe their is a problem.

If you are the sort of person employed by Royal Mail, (judging by your numerous mundane posts), then I am not surprised that the Royal Mail is in the state it is in today. If you hate your job so much then try and find another one and allow someone else with a better attitude and a brain to get a job.

Not a very good idea to come on here and abuse someone, try to relax a bit, we try to help as much as we can but sometimes it totally out of our hands. If money is consistently going missing then RM Security will identify it and deal with it, unfortunately we can't help with that because we're only posties who use this site in our spare time.

If someone has a different position to you please respect their right to have differing views, and enjoy yourself when picking holes in their position in a constructive way. We would much rather have a long winded well thought out argument, picking out weak points in someone's position, than have a thread full of 1 line insults.

Please do not in any circumstances resort to name calling or behaviour that could be deemed as bullying or harassment

The employees are demoralled with working for Royal Mail due to changes in the job. It is not easy to find new job as so many people are out of work.

Just because one area of Livingstone is ok, doesn't mean another part isn't. The only thing you can do is keep complaining to Customer Service I'm afraid, encourage anyone sending things to you, to use special delivery, especially if you know things are going missing. All it takes is one rogue postie to cause all sorts of problems. They may decide to send test letters out to you to check to see if they are arriving.


I wouldn't be too quick to jump on what this customer has said unless you seen what Stephen100 said in this reply before editing it.


I think that the amount of pressure now put on posties is just going to increase and we're going to see more and more of this thing going on. Until RM start listening to posties who say they can't complete in time allocated, you're going to get more and more taking mail home etc because they can't complete, but the management say they should be able to, expect them to work over there hours and not get paid for it etc etc

Thank you Mazza 111. I replied to Stephen100's comment which was abusive to me. I am not a confrontational person but I will not put up with being insulted on a PUBLIC forum. He amended his original posting so you cannot see it. All I wanted was some advice about contacting someone in Customer Services, which I was unable to do because I think there was something wrong with the site and I could not send it. Having said that, I managed to send my query to them after my last posting on here and so far I have still not had a reply. No surprise there then. By the way, I do appreciate that staff are demoralised and I do sympathise as I (and thousands more), have gone through the same situation.

The only thing I can advise is to keep complaining with every problem you get. It's the only way they seem to sit up and take notice. You can also contact CS via twitter. Hope things improve for you soon.

Not another West Lothian Question ?

The original West Lothian question refers to issues concerning the ability of Members of Parliament from constituencies in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales to vote on matters that only affect people living in England. This has occurred because of the devolution of power from Westminster to the Welsh and Northern Irish Assemblies and Scottish Parliament.
The question was first posed on 14 November 1977, by Tam Dalyell, Labour Member of Parliament (MP) for the Scottish constituency of West Lothian. During a British House of Commons debate over Scottish and Welsh devolution he said "For how long will English constituencies and English Honourable members tolerate ... at least 119 Honourable Members from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland exercising an important, and probably often decisive, effect on English politics while they themselves have no say in the same matters in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland?". He illustrated his point by pointing out the absurdity of a Member of Parliament for West Lothian being able to vote on matters affecting the English town of Blackburn, Lancashire but not Blackburn, West Lothian in his own constituency, due to the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 and its effects on Scottish local government.
The name "West Lothian question" was coined by the Ulster Unionist MP Enoch Powell in his response to Dalyell's speech: "We have finally grasped what the Honourable Member for West Lothian is getting at. Let us call it the West Lothian question."

I am a postie, but also a customer, and sadly, even I know sometimes my mail is not being delivered, and sometimes is tampered with! OP just erite straight back to the office at Fairbairn Road--sadly, the mail goes through many handling processess befre the humble postie gets it, so things could go wrong at so many points, just a little tip here, I lways send my cards enceased in a brown business type envelope--and those ones usually always get through!
