Does anybody know what the ratio is for annual leave in a delivery office. Our cwu rep is certain it is one in seven but the dim is trying it on with something in the region of one in ten. After our revision is in early next year we will have 70 staff in our office and we are told that there will only be 7 or 8 allowed off and two of these have to be AG's. The way the pick is done in our office I ain't going to be getting any summer leave during the school holidays for two years. After more than ten years service that can't be right can it ?

Depends how it's done, if it's seniority then you'll have had first pick in 1 of the previous 2 years so it becomes fair as why should you get first pick every year.

If it's done differently then how can anyone comment without knowing more information?

It's done by rotational group's not seniority and I did have first pick last year, but that's not my point. We had ten or eleven staff off for the school summer hols last year but now we may be down as low as six full time staff and two part time staff per week. I was wondering if anybody knew the correct figure of staff off per week ?

whatever he does he has to allow people to take their entitlement so at a minimum if everyone has 4 weeks off - with 70 staff he needs 280 slots

over 48 weeks (going on xmas block we have at our place - means they have to allow a minimum of 6 off.

Of course some are entitled to 6 weeks and at my place I would say most are. (70 staff x 6 weeks = 420 slots) - 9 off.


Of course with 10 days public holiday next year that also means more slots.

In ratios 6 would be about 1/11 - so just doable if no one is entitled to 6 weeks and no public holidays.

9 off would be about 1/8 to 1/7 - which is what your rep suggests.

Sounds like your DOM needs lessons in maths.

Note: Even just one person wanting 6 weeks means a ratio of 1 in 8 weeks off for them anything lower than that ratio would mean people not getting all their leave - never mind getting the dates they want.

So for every seven members of staff in your office one is allowed off do the math for your office.

Sadly R/M are now changing that.

Christmas no one off = 4 weeks
on average everyone has 5 weeks a/l = 8 x 5 = 40
1 week sick per annum = 8 x 1 = 8
total = 52 weeks
