Phoned work next day told them i would not be in, They said that my pay would be stopped because i was going against the atos recomendations. I said i go by what my gp says.

Re: ok more bully boy tactics
the problem is there is employment case law to support royal mails view
atos is the employers recognised health service, even though they are hated with a vengence
what you need is a specialist report from your doctor which will super-seed the atos report

(c) The business reserves the right to refuse sick pay if an absence is due to, or is aggravated by, causes within the employee's control, or if the employee has neglected instructions given by a Doctor.

You could probably do SOME work for them though, it doesn't have to be out on delivery. You could be doing some work in the RLE, killing letters off, prepping (I've done all that with one arm and leg out of action before now) so there's no real reason why you can't really go in with one finger not working
Does this rag smell of chloroform to you?

The question is April Tigger...do you ignore the advice of your own GP or do you ignore the advice of a "health advisor" from ATOS?

have to agree
however the OP would need to be strong in what they can/cannot do

Re: ok more bully boy tactics
If the splinted finger is the index or middle finger of the OP's "writing hand" then they are not going to be very productive...
Delivery would be out of the question, as carrying bundles/packets with injured hand would not exactly be safe practice, regardless of whether the OP's dominant hand was the injured one or not.
Prepping will be painfuilly slow (probably should not be holding mail in hand of injured finger, trying to feed letters into slots with non-dominant hand will be clumsy).
As will doing "deads" (crossing out addresses and writing RLB or RTS with non-dominant hand will be clumsy, peeling stickers off the roll could be tricky too).
Probably should not be carrying sequenced trays to frames one handed and I doubt it would be in the intrest of recovery to use the injured hand during the early stages of healing at least.
Best thing I can come up with is being placed in "the cage" ad issuing out the specials, only scanning the bar code holding the gun in the wrong hand could be fun and the posties will have to write duty number on the cards!
Wherever they are placed, the OP is not going to be able to work at anything like the normal expected speed, unless they of course become an honary manager during the recovery period... But care would still need to be taken making and drinking coffee!

Re: ok more bully boy tactics
Just go in and do only as much as you feel you can cope with. If it causes you too much pain then you will have to stop.
The thing is you have shown "willing to work".

Re: ok more bully boy tactics
Before u read ,this advice is not valid if what Atos say if final and u cant challenge that.iamnotadoormat wrote:ok so i am off "sick" at the minute with a broken finger. doc give me a sick line for 2 weeks (to be reviewed after that). atos phoned the other day said they recomended that i am fit to work!!!!!!! i would say it is better that u go to work as u will get full pay once u go to work even though u work inside. 1st thing 1st be a smart a$$ cuz u may lose the fight but u will get paid immediately. why get sick pay when u can get paid without delivering on the walk.
tell atos that u have different recommendation from GP and waiting for reports from a specialist. tell same to managers.
if managers/ atos ask why -- so are they saying that ur gp is incapable or if the injury becomes worse because of atos saying u fit but actually u may not be. Will atos/ managers take responsibilty and pay u compensation for treatment. As its ur body part and if the injury aggravates and something happens to ur finger u will never be able for work for royal mail or any other company.Give that reason in writing to both.plus u have notified about about the atos reportto ur GP and he/she has said his evaluation is correct and he has recommended ur case to a specialist.Tell them until a specilaist report comes u cannot take the risk.
tell ur dom what u r comfortable with and deny whatever u dont get comfortable. at least u can put d2d with 1 hand. Now that u getting paid -- tell ya gp to recomment to a specialist and challenge that atos and tell atos to re-evaluate the injury based on the specialist report.
in court cases different doctors testify different results, nothing uncommon.
finaly atos is the puppet working for RM and work according to manager's requests.
