National Talks Update

Post by Martin Walsh »

Dave Ward gave an update on the talks in Manchester on Thursday. Bob Gibson was meeting Rob Jenson with the assistance of ACAS on the Thursday in attempt to move the delivery agenda forward.

Dave gave an update obviously intially on Pensions and the request for state aid including a meeting with Ed Davey on Wednesday. Davey confirmed that privitisiation will only happen once state aid is granted and that at the earliest it would happen is mid 2013.

Discussions have also taken place on the seperation of the scheme from POL and the need for a new governace model along with what assets will still be there for future pensions.

Of com have been in discussions with the CWU and Royal Mail and its latest review is underway.

The CWU have hired the left wing company who produce the anti privitisation document for the CWU have reviewed the books in Royal Mail have concluded that the Royal Mail`s delivery plan cannot produce what they had hoped for. Funny enough the EU commision has said something similar.

There are on -going discussions on the attenance produced and there now only 3 issues to resolve.

Royal Mail have agreed to commence the MTSF review early and clearly this is a massive issue. Within the agreement the review should commence next September and Royal Mail had previously stated they cannot afford to fund the best industry agreement in the UK for dealing with pay protection and redundnacy. In fact they said they wanted to down dial everything including the redundancy terms and pay protection. The CWU will not accept this and clearly within the MTSF agreement then complusory redundnacies will become much more likely especially as the mail centre clousre programme goes past 2013.

Royal Mail have agreed that there is a need for an agreement on world class mails but the type of agreement they want and what this unions needs to fundrementatlly different.

Area drivers , is one which Royal Mail want to maximise the amount of driving profesional drivers do and obviously that is likely to mean in mail centres and delivery offices there are going to be less professional drivers.

There is going to be a trial of relationships in 2 offices in each region/division to try and improve relationships.

A number of other talks are taking place and will get a full up date on the delivery talks next week.

As you can see there are a number of issues which need to be resolved and are complex to say the least.

Is there any news on the Network HGV drivers and how mail centre closures will affect us, also has the issue of paid breaks for Network drivers been discussed?

First of all, thanks for the update,a couple of questions from me.....if i may please

So i take it Royal Mail will try and use the "Paragon System"to cull the amount of professional drivers in mail centres?

And what does the piece i have highlighted in red mean :cool

Complex number of issues yes.
But basically with WCM no doubt very nearly agreed, the flow process agreed, this is the last nail in the coffin before the
government get their way and privatise us.
We've seen it in the other companies who were privatised-maximising workload on staff and work beyond what is capable in timescales with poorer service to the public at large.
From what I have been involved with as a rep I can see whats going to happen.

Flow process------pushing us in the DO as hard as possible no time to breathe!
WCM------American idea surprise surprise!! Not called this but something else over there. Costly to run and leads to people grassing up others and backdoor introduction of team leaders.
IWT Revsions 100% BSI-----savings operation--but some codes not entered and covered by IWT so work that should have time alloted individually gets convenientally lost under a bigger code section and
therefore effectively lapsed by OPG'S.
Park n loop-------pushing outdoor work to the absolute and beyond----no time for a five minute chat to granny grumbles now! Georoute is so black and white it allows for nothing else but 100%. :cuppa

I agree with you vigilante, most of the damage in deliveries has already been done or is in the planning.
Too much delay and indecision, too much yak,yak and not enough action when it was needed means anything now is just a sticking plaster.
WCM and indoor flow should not have been part of the union's vocabulary, both are continuous savings projects which can only be bad for members.
We never agreed 100BSI is the excuse...that's a cop out that anyone can see through.

Is this another Royal Mail said story?
Can i see it in writing?
Why was this not conveyed officially to the membership?
When did they say it?
Who said it?
Why aren't we on strike over it?
When should i expect the....The union has secured the MTSF agreement for another 3 years but......speech? :cuppa

At best you could say that the union are doing their utmost to oversee the denigration of our terms and conditions - of course always in the best possible taste.

That's just not British Hans!....We're expected to keep a stiff upper lip and a stoic attitude.....and let the Management and Bankers crap on us from a great height! :whistle After all it's not our money that they're mucking about with is it?

Perhaps the Senior Union Guys have got an eye on a place in Parliament and perhaps a Knighthood...it's happened before hasn't it? Any kind of Representative should be "Whiter than White" but when you've Unit Reps who are "Feathering their own nests" (not all maybe) why expect the top bods to be any different? :confused

I don't think it is...not yet anyway.
Not until we're privatised.
I think someone on either side or both(don't really care which) is putting the wind up the membership.
Perhaps from Royal Mail's point of view to look like they are conceding ground.
Perhaps from the union's point of view to look like they are gaining ground.

I know one thing...if the London Divisional Committee seriously thought that MTSF was genuinely under attack the London members would already be at the gate....HQ backing or not.

And I will be joining them FT.

Privatised companies :arrrghhh you only have to look at the train network operation and utility companies to see how rubbish they are and charge customers a bl++dy fortune for
pathetic service
Thats where we are heading(well our service is rubbish already time wise  )
