ihr or redundancy

i was talking with a colleague today regarding my future as a footpostie, i have been on rehab for a month now doing part deliveries over flat/even terrain with little or no steps. i,m still recovering from a knee replacement. problem is, im finding it too difficult at times to cope with the pain, im doing about 2 hrs on delivery but this is after being at work and on my feet from 6.10am, prepping delivery, ips etc before goin out about half 10. ill health retirement is not an option for me as ive still got 9 years left on the mortgage, and a 17 grand pay off is no use at all. my mate says if they can,t find me another full time duty at the mail centre that is suitable i.e. sedentary/ or light duties, then they would have to offer me redundancy as i am fit enough to do sorting, machines, handstamping etc. ive been told my knee will improve, but i dont know to what extent, and i cant see me being able to cope with 4hr 45min deliveries no matter how much it improves. i feel they pressured me into going back, they were on the phone and sending out letters even before i got the stitches out. the surgeon said i should have at least 3 month off before going onto light duties. but i was back after 8 weeks. just sick of them badgering me. would i be offered redundancy?? ive even considered learning to drive so i could maybe get onto collections. any advice would be greatly appreciated, im just a loose end at the minute and the uncertainty is stressing me out no end.

I don't think there's much advice you can get on this, mate. You're in a hell of a bad predicament. It gets hard when the pressure starts, but you really should've followed the surgeons instructions. A knee replacement is about the most serious reason I've heard of for being off work.
They are supposed to find you work if you can do it; even if it means going to another office. As for driving; the collections drivers have to do a considerable amount of walking before collections, do I don't know how better off you'll be. That and the repetitive getting in and out of the van.

3 months pylon (pay in lieu of notice)
any outstanding holiday entitlement
enhanced pension

ill health retirement does not have to rely on an accident on duty

its done on capability

I'm confused - Can you not take the IHR and then get another job?, surely it means you can't do postie work anymore, but sitting in an office wouldn't be a problem..................how does it all work?

34 weeks pay plus 12 weeks pilon=46weeks pay which equates to 17,200 and odd quid. never thought bout my holiday entitlement but they owe me 2012s annual leave(26 days) and bout 15 days from this year. i took part of my pension at 50. im now 52. how is it enhanced??

all things aside, basically what im asking is:- if i am capable of doing less physical jobs, ie sorting/machines/handstamping etc, but they have nothing available, would i then be entitled to redundancy instead of ill health retirement, as it would cease to become ihr, if i am capable of doing other work.

You do not get an enchanced Pension if you are given IHR with Lump Sum . The Pension is deferred until retirement age . The lieu of notice is either 9 or 12 weeks depending on service .

You're on rehab and it's not worked so far,so you need it looked at,go back to ATOS.

you should get about £17k and then get to claim employment support allowance.
or try and get alternative duties, you need to rest your legs, so they can recover.

ask your DOM about a self referral to atos and ask atos about RM's FRP (functional restoration/rehabilitation programme) you may be eligible.

well atos have booked me in to see ''rehab works'', an independent physio assessment and treatment centre. later this month. im still doing my physio exercises that were given to me by the hospital physio team, religiously every day. im on my long weekend starting today, and my knee feels fine today, its seems when im relaxed and not doing owt strenuous its ok. but when i,ve been on my feet for 4 hours, then starting a delivery, thats when the bother starts. and im not certain if it,ll hold up for a full delivery of 4.hrs 45min.

as i said before though, does anyone know, if they cant find me suitable work that im capable of doing, would i be entitled to redundancy instead of ihr.
