World Class Mail

I have just read the Voice and the insert discussing World Class Mail and how everyone is advised to not be involved with it or accept any changes attributed to it.

What I am uncertain of is how does a unit rep, or a member KNOW what is and isn't attributable to WCM considering there are no guidelines as to what is and is not WCM. Apparently anything and everything can be WCM from the placing of waste bins to the positioning of frames, lights, car parking and so ad infinitum.

Although the official launch isn’t until November, the team was keen to get cracking to avoid
the clash with pre-Christmas workloads. World Class Mail champion Sarah Ward says: ‘We’ve
appointed all our pillar leads, and they are busy getting to grips with what World Class Mail is all about
and what they need to do to get colleagues on board. We’re ahead of schedule and should start
introducing initiatives this month.
‘We’re so excited about being the first in Scotland.’

Mallusk in Northern Ireland arein this, they are no longer workers but Pillars and they do not work in a Mail Centre but a Plant, what sort of life does that lady in Dunfermiline lead if this is what exicites her. All this new way of working is a load of old tosh that has been thought up by dickheads fresh from University it brings nothing to the table in improving things. It is about time our union took a lead on this and told Royal Mail to get stuffed, over the last fewyears we have had The way forward, Transformation, Park and Loop and now World Class Mail.

The result of this is that in the 25 years I have been with Royal Mail things have never been as bad. This is a simple job to do, the mail comes in and the mail goes out anyone can do it, but these twats who think they know better ahve wrecked the business. The sad thing is that a lot of this crap is coming from outside consultants who are getting a fortune from Royal Mail, take for example the recent PSP fiasco. The people who deliverd the courses on this did not have a clue what Royal Mail actually did, now look at the chaos. Whoever is bringing these changes in should be sacked. It would be intersting to see how more efficient we are to today than we were 10 years ago and how much more we have spent.

I'd definitely like to see her bangers right enough. But what exactly is a pillar, I've heard of champions before - in fact I was one once but I can't remember what it was for. I looked on it as being like a milk monitor at school.

In response to the original question, they tend to write on the bit of paper "World Class Mail" if it is something to fill in, or announce it as part of the WCM initiative.

So yeah, it is ridiculously easy to avoid, even if you don't care about anything.

Difficult part is for the rep to stay on top of everything since you have at least 11 people running around trying to undermine you, and willing to throw around the C word to people to scare them into it.

Well lets just say the revision has been instituted and that the "tweaking" is to go ahead. The DOM, the Planner and the Rep all go into a room and discuss what needs to be done to improve the revision but no one mentions world class mail, now does the Rep agree or disagree to the change - should he contact HQ for clarification or wait for one of the new forums that will discuss all manner of things - when they get round to it. Because nobody seems to know what does or does not constitute world class mail change as opposed to just a change.

The simple truth is we delivered more mail in less time 10 years ago. Management have made a complete bollocks of this job, 10 years ago management and posties were pulling in the same direction, now its a daily battle of them against us. They are not fit for purpose, in my office you can ask the same question of 3 managers and get 3 different answers.
