Veteran vans at Pocklington in East Yorkshire are sparkling like new – thanks to the 5S programme for vehicles being introduced across our network.

Driver Michelle Bradley (pictured) says: ‘Keeping our vehicles looking good gives a positive first impression to customers.

‘You look after your own car, so why not the one you spend even more time in?’

In the driving seat
Geoff Stanley, head of fleet and asset supply chain, adds: ‘It’s all about ensuring our people have safe and clean environments to work in.

‘If people can get into the habit of maintaining vehicles to 5S standards now, they’ll be in the driving seat when the World Class Mail programme is introduced to all delivery units.’

Never in my 15 years have i had my van washed while i've been at my DO's.

I used to wash my van once a week when we had the light tue's (rem them). I also used to hoover it out and wipe around the dash with wet wipes.

Guess what happened it always got picked to go out on SA collections even though there were newer models avalible. So i got all the chip wrappers and Mac Donalds cartons plus sticky drink all over the dash.

I got well tired of this and asked one of the worse culprits why he always took my van. "oh i like yours as it nice and clean to eat in" he replied.

No i don't.
It's still under warranty so i haven't lifted the bonnet since i bought it.
The inside looks like McDonalds after a riot and the last time i washed it there was a Z in the month.
My van is spotless though....until those collection feckers nick it.

They can f*** off, barely have enough time to do deliveries so not washing my van, they can get someone to wash it on OT but I won't be doing it. As for the state people leave the inside...............if I have to lift one more apple core I will shove it where the sun don't shine, along with the empty drinks cans, the crisp packets, the sweet wrappers, the cake boxes (?), the coffee cups and all the other junk shove under the seat (and behind).

Bloody hell that ,that's a 54 plate on that van, it's seven years old !!.

We have no facilities to wash our vans, we used to use the local BP garage which has a car wash but now can only use Total and there are only two in ten miles and neither has a car wash.

If the Dom saw me washing a van he would grab me to do something else

It really does not take long to check the water and oil and a visual check of the tyre treads, 2 mins max.

We used to have fairly local garages and got 'OMV' remember that !

Our nearest RM garage is now a 60 mile round trip after the closures and we have nothing to wash our van's with. Plus every time I return from A/L there is a new bump or scratch !

We take ours to our Mail Centre and use the van wash,if its not working then i ask the Dom for some money and take it to a drive through car wash,they do a decent job for £10.
I like a van to be nice and clean so i can see out the windows and through the mirrors
if its not then i dont use it and it then becomes the managers problem
