I have seen our office in Hampshire go from getting every single last bit of mail out on delivery to a scene of utter incapability by both the planners and the managers.
We have had a revision,and because the P&L wasn't working,our boss decided to address the situation,by re-planning the loops......and yes you've guessed it,it's even worse.
The sorting has stayed the same,but you are now required to go and extract a loop from which ever extra loop is designated to your walk,whilst someone comes and takes one of your loops,to relieve your round.
But heaven forbid if you mention that it takes more time to travel to a part of someone else's walk!
The response is always "we are relieving a bit of your round so you can take out someone's else's loop".......so in effect you are losing 60 calls off of your round,and gaining 60 more from a bit of town that is 2 miles away!!
You couldn't make all this up.
Oh and finally,the shared vans are being done by 1 FT/1 PT,FT to throw off both walks,and you still got to be out by half 10......it all makes me laugh now

The thing is like your title said it's not rocket science and in my opinion without all the red tape created by management to preserve management jobs the job itself could be simply run with one manager at each DO actually doing proper management work. Not compiling remes of paperwork about anything and everything that doesn't improve efficiency or make anyones job easier .....

The bulk of them are elevated to a position for which they have no training, people skills, true appreciation of what the job entails..... No wonder we are in such a mess ......

Perhaps they should take the "Run Around" (R.I.P. Mike Reid) approach and the dom shout out geeeeerrrrrrr GO ! and every one runs to whatever frame he/she likes and grabs a loop and then another till they are all gone
