32 hour part timers over Xmas

Being a 32 hour a week part timer who used to work 4 days a week at 8 hours a day.
Then being asked to work the extra day at 6 and a half hours a day for the same hours
then asked to come in 1 and a half hours early each day to help with P/L it is RM getting fulltimers on the cheap.
Holiday pay , bonuses etc are all pro rata saving RM a mint.
As of December I have had enough of coming in early and will start my normal start time of 8am. If they want me to work full time hours they can make me a full time employee. If every 32 hour part timer at my office did it they would be in the s**t bigtime over xmas

Its how they work mate i was on a 24 hr contract doing 35-40 a week for years.

If you do start working your hours i would make up excuse ie family or other commitments,if you threaten to just work your hours in hope they will offer you full time your kidding yourself and will probably not see your contract renewed.Its sorta like the carrot and stick routine except they beat you with the stick and the carrots not real!

know how you feel am on 36 hr contract for last 3 years but work 40 + hrs every week,doms been out tested my duty etc,but still not made up to full time,JOKE JOKE JOKE.

Thats just wrong though isn't it? If they employ someone on 32 hours and they work those hours to the required standard, thats all that should be expected...

I dont have that problem I'm permanent part time so they cant touch me.

You've got the right idea there Eastie. If you can afford it just work your hours....there's nothing they can do about it. In fact the Managers seem to get a bit worried about it as they know there's nothing they can do...apart from a bit of B & H!

It's also quite relaxing coming in and seeing all the usual suspects rushing around "Trying" to look as if they're working harder than everyone else and getting more and more stressed as the mail picks up! It's a shame all PTers can't just work their hours...it'd certainly show up how many Posties we really need.... but the reality is not many can live on the crap contracts RM are dishing out!
