Does anybody know if you are driving towards a speed camera and it's facing you and flashes does it mean you have got done? Seems to say on net that the ones what face oncoming traffic shouldn't flash at you.

what kind of speed camera was it?

where there any markings on the road?

Gatso's flash you as you pass the camera and work out your speed via the white lines.

if it was a forward facing camera a trevello, it will still flash but a very low flash through the red lens, this will pick up the driver as well as the reg plate etc.

it may be that you were flashed by a camera on the other side of the road which was catching another driver.

If it's just one of them normal cameras then no, it's not allowed to if your coming towards it.

Your best bet for the future, is to use one of the many devices designed to prevent you being caught by speed cameras. There's loads on the market, depending on how much you want to spend. Although personally, I use the best (and cheapest) one on the market. It comes FREE with every car sold in the last 100 years! It's called A SPEEDOMETER! If you keep your speed at, or below the speed limit, you're GUARANTEED to never be caught by a speed camera. And more importantly, you'll greatly reduce the danger you're currently putting other road users in. Particularly pedestrians.

It always catches the back of you, I reckon as you were going towards it some idiot got caught on the other side so you seen it flash at that point..

As others have said the gatso's need the lines to work out your speed so if your driving towards them you are ok but you should keep the speed down anyway.

Its quite easy to slip a couple of miles over so i bought a static detector with my 20 year award money Lives 24/7 in the Jag and has saved me a few times now esp on strange roads

Unless I'm sleep driving, which is quite a possibility, it's unlikely to be me So drugged up to the eyeballs these days, I'm sleep driving during the day... Besides, I haven't been to Pensarn beach in years

if your driving away from it the camera takes two photos and measures your speed between the white marker lines therefore they have proof if your coming towards a fixed camera wheres the proof ?

Because the newer cameras (which take a photo of the driver), uses the same technology as the handheld speed traps (and the speed signs that have been appearing over the last few years), and therefore provide an accurate measurement of your speed. This technology was too expensive, when the Gatso cameras were introduced. They also use the same technology for the average speed traps.
