whats the minimum number?

Can anyone point me in the direction of how many people have to be in a DO building during a night shift - Royal Mail say one but I thought two for health and safety.

Any info appriciated.

I thought that in any job where manual labour is required that two persons are to be on shift incase of accidents etc.

even at our small office the geezer in the callers office is the only one there once the dom has f***ed off, can this even be right?

There is no specific legal restriction against lone working but it must be subject to a risk assessment.

More like it's RM Policy to save 50% of Wages, when they can get away with it Keith. I believe Managements thinking is....... if you're on your own then you can't muck about as much...so through sheer boredom you might as well just get on with the job!

When I was in rurals the managers used to go around in threes .One knew how to read ,one knew how to count and the other one was there to report back on the two dangerous intellectuals.

I've much more experience of the Ministry of Defence than most members of this forum and just told it as it was, albeit with accomodation rather than night shifts, and accept that attitudes might have changed somewhat in these more enlightened times. I wasn't suggesting that Royal Mail ever mistrusted its staff in such a way.
