Will we get our pay rise in April?
I heard a rumor that RM are trying to renege on the 3.5% promised, is there any truth in the rumor?

From my understanding of the agreement it wasn't worth the paper it was written on. Basically it said we might get 3.5% if finances allow it. Having been told RMs financial position is dire and the fantom shares now worthless, what do you reckon on getting any payrise at all?
Union what Union? Do we have a union?

Wasn't it based on whether we meet targets?

Re: Will we get our pay rise in April?
No nothing to do with targets, just the financial position of the company I believe!
It was basically a carrot to lead us by, so we'd except the crap below inflation pay rises for the two years prior to the 3.5%

Re: Will we get our pay rise in April?
What the agreement stated was it could be revisited depending on the circumstances. I am surmising there would have been some confidence that the financial position would have improved with the "modernisation" which as we all know hasn't materialised either in the financial department or in fact the modernisation. So will we be getting the 3.5%
I would imagine there will be a little softening up after the christmas pressure by the usual signatories as to how dire the circumstances are and how poor the return on christmas mail has been

Re: Will we get our pay rise in April?
Approach to third year basic pay review
Both parties are approaching the future with a positive expectation that deployment of this agreement will ensure that transformation is delivered, leading to an improvement in company performance and a successful and sustainable future for the organisation.
Given this, there will be an increase in pensionable pay, overtime and allowances of 3.5%. This will be revisited if the average RPI for January to March 2012 is outside the expected range of 2%-3%.
Both parties also recognise that there is uncertainty in the commercial environment that may affect the business in either a positive or negative way. Against this background it is recognised that there should be flexibility to reopen this element of the agreement in response to unforeseen events which have a significant impact on the business and its employees.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

It's good isn't it.
More holes than a teabag.
I have heard that the new business plan has budgeted for 3.5%.
So despite RPI being almost twice the expected range....we are unlikely to see any more.
They might up the Christmas bonus for next year though.

It wasn't a question so much around the actual pay rise, I wanted to know if there was any truth in this rumor.haynes wrote:There is no guarantee you I and every Tom Dick and harry will be with the Royal Mail by April. If there is any truth in the rumor, I would like someone from HQ to say so. If the business has already approached the Union around this then the members deserve to know.
The 2010 & Beyond agreement does allow this to be revisited, but the current circumstances would show that a higher pay rise would be applicable.
RPI is currently outside the 2-3% window in the agreement which would suggest a higher pay rise.
The regulator raising the cost of DSA to levels that would mean a profit from every item instead of a loss would surely fall within the quote from the agreement below
" that there should be flexibility to reopen this element of the agreement in
response to unforeseen events which have a significant impact on the business and its
employees."
As would the possibility of the Pension deficit being covered by the proposed State aid.
All these things would give the business a greater opportunity to reward it's staff that have worked hard and taken below inflation pay rises to help the business turn around.
If they renege whist executives take huge bonuses and they pay incompetent mid and low management bonuses, then I think members deserve to be told before Christmas and our weak leaders allow to ballot at the time of year when withdrawing our labour would have most effect.

Yes then we can withdraw our labour and go on strike, losing lots of money in the process only to then watch tweedle dumb and tweedle dee agree to postpone further strike action til after Christmas. Letting RM management off the hook just when we had them by the danglies, like they did last time!
