postie signing for special

i came back today to overhear that a fellow postie signed for a special and posted it........ because there was a note on the letterbox saying that they were "urgent train tickets" and they had to pop out on an emergency call (work) and could the postman just post them??????

But the postie wasn't sure so phoned their office and spoke to manager who said - YES, sign and post, then bring back the note as proof... (how this is proof i dont know - anyone could of wrote this)

Was the manager right in telling them to go ahead??, if not, should they of just left a p739? and i wonder if the manager will admit or lie in advising the postiie, if in a few weeks time theres a claim saying they never recieved them.

is the postie covered or could they be in trouble if this is not the last they hear of this matter.

Hey, for all we know there could be another note there tomorrow saying knock on and a nice little tip there waiting for them?

No he should never sign for a special himself, its a sackable offence. The DIM should never have told him to
If these tickets were so so important they should have waited in for them. He should have 739 it job done , no come back for him.
Chances are there wont be any come back , but like you said anybody could have written that note.

was always told to ignore notes on door..............its the sender who makes the contract, thats why tracked items have the option to leave items elsewhere on the item

The ans above are all correct as its a big risk so to be safe P739

However after many years in the job and as he phoned in and the dom instructed him then i would say his helped the customer out and the item got delivered.

Personally when i handed the note over i would have asked for a photocopy.

What if it wasn't even the recipient who stuck the note on the door but just somebody with access to the property.
Lot's of ways this could go pearshaped.
A note is just a scrap of paper with some words on it after all.
Should be fun...keep us posted.

... I always take photos of notes in windows saying "please leave in bin/with no 28" etc - then P739 cuz I don't know 'em anyway

(and notes saying "No Junk Mail" are - I assume - not worth the paper they're written on (as the D2Ds fly through the letter box )

It's a toughie... you know you're going to get abuse for it... but you just shrug it off and tell them you can get the sack for doing it and so they need to take it up with the manager

They won't and will just slag you off to all and sundry but hey, this isn't a popularity competition and we all know lies spread faster than the truth.

If it's that important to them they should either get a 9 0 clock special or phone the delivery office and collect it in the morning.

Worse comes to the worse docket them and if you see them the next day say it was your day off.

No point lieing about it. Just say you're not allowed to sign for them as you could possibly get sacked. You've no way of knowing what's in that envelope even if it said on the front "TRAIN TICKETS", you've not got bloomin X ray vision. And if they were that important, they should have made sure there was someone there to receive them if they knew they would be there before 1pm. If it was after 1pm, then fine, they could then kick off, claim compo and blah blah blah de whatsit.
