Transfers?

A question for anybody on the union. My partner transferred from streatham in london to bedford about 2 yrs ago, he requested a transfer back to london 13 months ago. He is living in london again and travelling to bedford to work each day, hr and atos have been of no help. He recently spoke to a manager of a delivery office that he know in the south east area of london, who said he had a vacancy. His manager spoke to the dsm who has said that he can only transfer in london if he is already working in london. I am outraged by this as is he, surely that cant be right. Does anybody know if this is true?. If so it contradicts a letter all employees got a few months ago stating that royal mail think that 15 miles radius of your home is the maximum they would expect an employee to go to work. Well hes doing london to bedford daily which is a ridiculous amount of miles driving daily. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. It is looking like his only option is to leave the company after 11 yrs, it shouldnt have to come to that. Rachael.

Unless that has changed in the last couple of months that is bollox,my office has had a transfer in from outer London.
The DSM spoken to,is he/she in London?
The manager in SE lon needs to speak to his DSM,i can't see there being a problem.

Hi, thanks for a reply. His manager in bedford spoke to the manager in se london and that managers dsm in london, it was the dsm that said only transfers from people already in london can take place. My partner has never been told this in the 13 months on the wait for a transfer, we found it ridiculous.

Unfortanataly there is a blockage of people transfering from outside the London Postcode districts into London. This is due to the following.

1. There are 2 mail centre closures and the mail centre is reducing its staffing levels by 54%. All mail centre staff are being peferenced over wether they wish to transfer to a delivery office.

2. That Royal Mail are only employing Fixed Term Contracts where offices have not done a intregrated walk sequencing revison and no office in South East London and South West London have done such a revison.

3. That there are 130 fixed term contract staff who have done over 2 years and are due to get a permanent contract once an intregrated revison comes into offices where there will still be vacancies following the intregrated revision. The reason why there will still be vacancies is that Royal Mail in London have not recurited to permanent contracts for close on 3 years.

These are the reasons why your husband is finding it differcult to get a transfer back in London.

Just to give an update , the indivdual concerned has now got his transfer to an office in south east London , see the union does a lot of good things which don't often get a mention as people like to concentrate on the bad things .

1 issue solved, 999,999 to go. Still, it's a start. We can't expect miracles.

That is fantastic , the Union are trying to do something similar for us, we are moving house to another county, were told there were jobs, but at the moment, it's all fizzled to nothing, here's hoping.
