Hi guys i got a form to join the union yesterday but im slightly confused, it has a blank box for how much dues you have to pay. How much is it? Im pretty sure i havent met my DO rep yet (could be mistaken).

What are your contracted hours per week.

just write in it "weekly" and it will be adjusted to your hourage.

my contract is 23.40 hours a week so that would be £1.90?

Yes unless you opt out of the political fund then it would be £1.80 "I" = in "O" = Out

Hmm. Maybe I misunderstood cos when I asked the union rep about joining a few weeks after starting the job he said it was a lot more per week than the figures you got there. What's the political fund, too? That's not mentioned on the application form he gave me to fill in (which is still sitting in the drawer uncompleted for the same reason as leeroy!)

Maybe he was looking for a kickback.
The political fund is as it sounds...a fund for political activities.
One of those activities is donating to the Labour Party.

You can opt out of the political fund though it's no great saving.

I have solely on principal, I have turned my back on the labour party as they have on the working class.

I was also a member of the labour party, stopped that softness as well, you can't tell who's tories or labour nowadays, they have so much in common, all are expert in lying, deceiving and stealing and ripping off the working class

No one as i've said they are all the same...... untrustworthy, incompetent, self motivated clowns nowadays, but that's just my opinion. Before you jump down my throat last election was the first time i have not voted Labour and I was a contributing member of the party, walked the streets posting election material, gave the party my 100% support. What did they do for me on a personal front in their last prolonged term in office.... Nowt !!!!!! as a postie (they started all this daft open market DSA rubish which is destroying our buisness!!!), a taxpayer (taxes rose health service deteriorated, pensions effectively dropped etc etc), a parent or anything,,,,, Zilch, Nothing!!!!!

You can opt out of the political donations, but that won't lower your dues. Just the money that WOULD have gone to the political fund goes into the general pot.

How does one opt out of the political fund if they're already (unknowingly) in it? I'm with a few others in that Labour's beliefs are not mine (nobody's beliefs are mine, but that's beside the point). Politics and unionism going hand-in-hand is something out of a distant past, when politicians were at least representative of the lower classes.
